Why did this guy contact me?
Was on LinkedIn and this guy from the job I quit end of 2022 added me and messaged me out of the blue. He says that he sees I am looking for work and that I should consider company X as they are good to work for and pay well. (The company I had JUST quit from.) I told him that we had actually met ( I was a manager and he was a line cook) and that I had quit that job the same week I started. His next message to me was that he too had quit because they were so dysfunctional. I showed the messages to my wife and we could not figure out WTF this guy was angling for. Anybody here have any ideas? I can post the convo in the comments if anyone is interested. Completely baffled why this dude messaged me.
Ain’t this some shit
My agency hired a 25 year old for a position slightly higher than mine and better paying. I’ve been at my job for two years. This 25 year old has a degree in a completely unrelated field to the work we do. I am expected to train and teach her how to do her job. I was not considered for the position because I do not have a college degree. When I sat down with my boss to tell her that the whole situation was a bit hard to swallow, she said to me “I know we don’t agree on the matter of degrees…” and then she went on to say, “my kids both have college degrees and they damn well better make more than someone without one” Like, they DAMN WELL BETTER??? Fuck right off. I’m still going to this job every day because I have a chronic condition…

I know many people (who tend to be older) who have said that European countries who have better working laws than the United States with 3 weeks of mandatory vacation time, years worth of parental leave, all that shit, and I know people who say “oh it's because those countries are lazy!” “those countries are lazy socialists!” “they don't know good work ethic for shit”. Imagine being so proud of being exploited, that a work life balance is literally communism. Even though taking vacations is better for mental health, and it's important to have a life (https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/why_you_should_take_more_time_off_from_work)…. Americans just want to go “LA LA LA LA I CANT HEAR YOU” and continue being exploited.
Public school teachers (in the US) are required to have college degrees and get a certification. And if too many are out sick, they call in a sub, who isn't a regular employee of the district and doesn't get paid unless they are short staffed, and isn't certified, maybe has zero teaching experience, and has some college, but not necessarily in education. But if a store or restaurant needs a cashier or waitress to come in … it has to be a sick employee, there's no way they could function with a substitute worker for a day or two.
