Why do boomers hate chairs

I'm allways reminded of the anecdote of the battered old man stood in an airport after the unification of Germany, surrounded by shops and duty-free, looking up and saying “At least under communism, you could sit down”. I run the Guest Services department in a 250 room full-service hotel in the US. One of the changes i've made in the past year since taking this role is to add stools behind the front desk. It allways seemed to me that if we wanted the Associates who work the desk to be chipper and bubbly all the time, the least we could do was stop giving them chronic foot pain. In this year, no complaints, no issues, nothing but smooth sailing, outside the occasional unconnected issue. But our new GM, well he sees these stools and its like I'm buck naked, making love to his daughter over his desk, while openly…

Quit two jobs in two months

Idk if I’m going through a midlife crisis or what. I was at my first professional real job for 12 years. I got dragged into an HR investigation and decided I couldn’t stay and quit soon after. I had lost all respect from anyone by the time the investigation was over even tho I wasn’t in the wrong. I found a new job and worked there two months then quit bc my boss was a micromanager and just completely made my life miserable. I’m now starting a new job but feel worried what if something is wrong with me. I can see why people stay at crappy jobs for so long bc this feeling of being nervous for the first day sucks.

Get familiar with the Department of labor.

I feel like there are a lot of questions asked here that can easily just be directed to the department of labor. Here is my success story. I was a 1099 sales rep and the company was with holding my last check because “I was leaving them”. I really NEEDED that money. I was at my wits end. Then I learned about the DOL. It felt like the “doctors hate this one trick” meme. I learned that if you report your employer for this kind of theft of fraud the DOL will audit them and make them crack all their books open. In my particular case this would have caught any other sales rep they did this to. The DOL then makes them pay for any wrong doing AND they charge the employer for the actual audit. As soon as I told my boss I expect to be paid or…

Stop discouraging people from reporting their employers

Some people in this sub need to stop with this, “You could report them, but it's going to take a long time for the issue to be resolved and you're not going to get any money out of it, and it could be risky for you” bullshit. A LOT of employers out there are straight up breaking the fucking law, and they need to be held accountable. There are government regulations and laws and agencies, so when remedies exist to hold employers accountable for their shitty behavior, the employers need to be encouraged to FUCKING REPORT THOSE ASSHOLES. It's true, sometimes it takes a while. And a lot of the time, there's really no chance that the employee is going yo get any money out of it. Even if they have a solid wrongful termination lawsuit, it's probably not going yo be 'big money.' But there is money there, and…

Feeling Guilty about Quitting

I’m going to quit my job without notice tomorrow. I work at a doggy daycare and was attacked by a dog on Saturday that has attacked other employees before. I have several huge bruises on my arm and throbbing pain from the bruises. This dog had hurt other employees before but was somehow still not dismissed. The owner of our business finally allowed me to dismiss him for good. But I’m angry…it took me getting hurt and it was a 100 percent preventable since he should’ve not been allowed to come back the first time he hurt someone (he has bit another employee hard enough to leave scars). When I texted photos to the owner of my injuries later, all he said was “oh my” and that’s it. I feel like he doesn’t care about his employees’ safety. I’m not risking myself getting hurt again from the owner’s stubbornness. I…

Had a horrible experience at build a bear today, reminded me of some of the unethical stuff I was forced to do during past employment.

I posted a rant about a horrible experience I had with build a bear costumer service here. To make a long story short, I had an online order I wanted to cancel, called costumer service many times over 10 days to cancel that order, every time being told that there was nothing they could do, I had to wait to receive the order and return it in store. I gave up after 10 days because that’s when the order finally shipped from the warehouse. After I received it I went in store and spent an hour and a half, being bounced from in store costumer service to online costumer service to going back in store. Every time I talk to someone new or even the same people the story changed and they came up with a new reason for why I couldn’t return the product. By the end of this…

Am I being ripped off?

I joined a café as a waitress, weekends only, at a rate of 27 ph (he wanted to do 26). Before my fourth shift, owner texts me he decided to hire someone else. I did 6,5 hours x 3 days (19,5 hrs) He only transferred me 505,5 (it should be 526,5). When we met, he said payments were in the books”. However, he did not send me a payslip. How should I proceed in this situation? I was thinking of texting him: you can either pay the remaining 21 or send me the payslip. Thanks a lot
