We learn our work hierarchical relationships in school wherein the teacher (manager) tells a student (subordinate) what they are supposed to achieve, then tells the student once they have achieved it. Students learn to succeed they have to please the teacher but not necessarily learn, improve the curriculum, or the way the class is taught. It creates a system of “pleasing bosses and failing to improve the system that serves customers”. Deming, Dr. W. E., From Senge, P. M. (2006), p.xiii.

So I went to a certain retail chain where the workers wear red shirts and I saw the hygiene products all locked where workers had to unlock a glass case before I could take any of them. Only hygiene products though. That means that people are so poor that they need to steal toothpaste to live. We can all agree, people need to make enough money to NOT STEAL TOOTHPASTE.

Imagine. If we all started again. From where we all are right now. We grow, make, create, trade etc from where we are right now. Just supplies. Share jobs. Share work load. Work on a farm for a few weeks, then break for a few. Go on holiday for a few weeks, come back, trade with someone else and do their job for a bit, couple weeks or so, then having a month off. Every one does this we can all be happy. Oh yeah! Socialism! Sounds terrible.

Long story short. Was at work today, cleaning pools. Went to pour a jug of chlorine and when I leaned forward I felt a stabbing pain in my back and almost collapsed. I slowly stood up and felt my back was tight. Text my boss, let them know the story. I get a call saying they don’t want me to work, but go home and rest. Then she says I can’t use workman’s comp because we both know I wouldn’t pass a drug test (I smoke weed) so I need to go to the hospital and use my insurance. I honestly just wanted to come home and lick my wounds. I do smoke weed but that has nothing to do with me hurting my back at work. Should I still go for workman’s comp if it doesn’t get better, or will failing a drug test make it pointless?
