I just had a question, I am 20 and working my first “big girl job” outside of retail and food service. I work in customer service answering phones and emails and such. I've been working here 6 months and passed my yearly review i was never supposed to be given with flying colors and earned my first raise in december. that's where the trouble (from what I can tell) starts. My supervisor sat me down a few weeks before the review and asked me if i could work 6a-5p mon-thurs. I loved the idea of a 3 day weekend every weekend and told her I could. She thanked me and told me I was doing her a great favor and such. Since then I have called out three times, which is way more than I have ever called out but I was sick each time and needed to stay home.…

For context, right now I’m working two part-time jobs, and I want to leave one of them because the other one that I like much more is offering to promote me to full time with benefits. But since it’s a busy time at the job I wanna leave, and my coworker is leaving too I feel bad about leaving my boss “stranded”. When I got hired my employer told me how hard it was to find decent employees. I know that this isn’t my problem but tbh, I think I’m mostly scared of my boss being upset with me for quitting. They’re pretty hot-headed and even though they like me now, I have no idea how they will react to my putting in a notice when I know they’ve been stressed with their job and they always complain about being exhausted and overworked. I feel like the only reason I’m…
This month makes 2 years since I’ve had a full week off. I’m “lucky” enough to get 10 paid vacation days per year, and I’ve had to use them for reasons other than an actual vacation. If I don’t use any days, it’ll take 5 months from now before I have earned enough time for a week off. But after that, I’ll go back down to zero available vacation time. My job doesn’t allow unpaid time off. I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this.
My job always cuts time I’ve worked every week to exactly 40 hours. It’s only a few minutes but this still doesn’t seem right. Last pay period I worked 80 hours and 15 minutes, but they took off the 15 minutes. Is this allowed?
I make more than 75% of all people – and while I dont have a bad life – I will never ever be able to afford a house/property or a family. After paying rent + all the other necessities I am left with some 600 Dollars at the end of the month. I save around 300 and spend around 300 on social activities and interests and stuff I dont really need. With such a saving rate I would need around 80 years to buy a cheap house – no car though – no other expenses no family. And this despite making more than 75% of the population. Its beyond f***k. If I would make just 500 Dollars less I could barely survive. I cant imagine how people who earn less than me do it. Such a system has to fail – it MUST fail.
My boss offered me a “better” schedule of four days on three days off because I show up an hr early every day (unpaid), never leave early, and rarely call in. The catch is that I don’t have weekends off, and my days can be tossed around as they see fit so they won’t be 4 on followed by 3 off. For ex: 2 on one off, 1 on one off etc. my new schedule would be 11:30am to 11 pm. Currently I’m 2:30pm to 11 pm and do get either sat or sun off every other week. I work a cushy office type job so the extra 2 hrs a day is just extra mental stress but is it worth it if there’s absolutely nothing else beneficial besides the extra day off?
My job said I have to be in the office 3 days a week and their explanation is “We need to use our office space”. Dumbest idea ever. I have not called sick once since I started working remotely because I could just work from bed. I guess I will be taking my sick days then and be miserable in traffic and cubicle “socialising” with colleagues who look over my shoulder to see what's on my screen and if I'm being productive every minute of the shift.
Hi. Posting here to see if anyone can point me in the right direction. My wife works from home for a company based in Texas. She requested a half-day recently because she wasnt feeling well. Her boss ran a “productivity report” and has decided that my wife should actually request more hours of PTO for that day because she wasnt active for bits of the day. Keep in mind, she is paid per processed case, not an hourly wage. And she actually completed half of her work for the day despite her “inactivity”. So, to me, forcing her to take PTO retroactively seems like a form of wage theft (trying to use up her PTO so later she cant take off). I feel like the correct move here is just to say “No, thanks.” But I cant find anything that specifically says a boss cant do this. What say you?…
