Is it normal to expect someone to work as a machine?

So I started this job as an accounts payable a month ago as. I'm the only one in the department and after a month I can fairly saying I'm starting to ease in the work load, the different vendors that we get and figuring out the new system. I also have to mention that the first week I started there was someone else with me in the department but she quit – she was a no show, no call and when they contacted her she said she's not coming in anymore – so ofc all her work load which was hundred something invoices was handed out to me. Also my manager has been pretty chill so far, and I've had no issues with him. That's just a little context. So now for what happened today. I went to my manager to ask him about an invoice I was struggling with.…

Is 7-5 the next norm?

Back in the day the ‘normal’ work day in corporate America was 9-5. But somehow over the last number of years, they decided to sneak in another hour, on the pretense that lunch is not really a work hour. So now, office hours are 8-5, and you get an unpaid hour of lunch thrown in. I’m just wondering whether it’s a matter of time before they find an excuse to drag us into the office at 7 am. Oh yeah, in addition to this, our PTO ‘package’ consists of a whopping 15 vacation days per year, which includes 5 sick days. And to top it off, Presidents’ Day is not an off day, instead we get dragged into the office for corporate “trainings”.

What actually happens if you call the DOL for unpaid?

Do you have to say who you are? Can't the company just find a random reason to let you go in an at-will state? What actually happens to the company if you make the call?

The absolute audacity of some companies astounds me

So ive been applying for some remote positions, and got a response for a sort of pre-interview. Where the company would vet everybodies pcs to make sure they met the requirements, and then schedule interviews for the following day. During this pre interview, they told us that it was a 1099 contract position. Ok, not unheard of, not great, but I know how to do my taxes so no worries. Then they tell us that the first week well be doing training, and the following week nesting. Ok pretty standard. Then they tell us that we wont get paid our first check till 3 weeks after we start our training. Thats the first redflag. Then they say that the first week only gets paid after working for 30 days. In essence, the first check will only pay for the nesting and one week of work. You wont even get paid…

My Boss purposefully got my vehicle towed because I parked in “his spot”, and now my car is held hostage by the impound company until I pay.

If you need an example of why people don't want to work, look no further than this example of shit behavior by management, where the employee is now forced into an ultimatum because of some petty grievance. This all took place just a few hours ago. My boss is rather aggressive, but there's no one to go to in order to address his behavior. he makes staff mad, curses people out, yells, steals, uses vulnerable people as scape goats, and will lie at every turn and then blame you when things don't turn out the way they are supposed to. He is very obsessed with his parking spot and uses it to talk down to people who try to park there, that's for people who are important to the company he would say. Today there was an event across the street so many parking spots were taken, including ones for…

This awesome old timer was fired because he wouldn’t retire. He was trying to pay for his wife’s cancer treatment. Anything you can give would be appreciated.
