A rant about work attendance
I’ve been working in a preschool classroom since September 2022. I have missed probably around 14 days. Days missed have been due to illness, which I know is typical when you’re working with young children for the first time IYKYK!… I also have asthma and environmental allergies which exacerbate any symptoms I have. Hours I miss I must make up by the way, no matter the circumstance. Today my supervisor said this in an email where she asked to schedule a meeting; “I am emailing you because I am not sure if you are planning to apply for next year. I know one of the struggles this year has been attendance. I want to meet with you and discuss what that means for next year.“ WHATS THE GAME PLAN HERE?! All I can do is continue with making up hours and hope I’m caught up by June (end of the…
Held in interview limbo for a month
I applied for a tech job at a public school district last month, filled out their lengthy application, interviewed on Zoom, then did an in-person interview and troubleshooting test at the school. This would be a temp job replacing another tech who’s on medical leave, but could lead to a full-time job. Full benefits and good pay. They tell me they’ll let me know “early next week” (i.e. last week). No email or call from them. I follow up with an email, no response all week. Then, this morning, I get an email apologizing about the radio silence, and they tell me the person I’m replacing might be coming back from leave but they will know on Friday. So in total, I will have waited about a month in limbo for nothing. Why are real person jobs like this?? It makes me want to go back to the service industry.

I went out for a neck injury unrelated to work in early October 2022. It took a month to see a Dr and get the ball rolling on NYS temp. Disability and DSS assistance forms. My temp. Disability form was finally all sent in by beginning of January due to a back and forth with Dr and documents. I have been recievkng half rent assistance from my local debt. Of social services. HOWEVER. I have still not seen or heard from Disability, and all calls to the department route me into an endless, automates circle. Because of this, landlord filed an eviction for 3/31, saying i could get ERAPm. Unfortunately the state stopped taking those applications last month due to temporarily losing internet and phone, I was unable to update my leave with my job, and was terminated. I refiled updated stuff with my leave company, 3rd party, and today…
Should I start looking for a new opportunity? In all honesty I don’t want to work there anymore and I have been working on updating my resume and creating a website to start looking for new opportunities and hope the a freelancer as well. It’s like this sis the sign I needed and everyone is pretty much leaving and by everyone people who started at the company with me.
Boomers and Productivity
I don’t think boomers understand the shear amount of work people are expected to do now compared to when they were in the workforce. The expectations for always being “online” the immediacy with which all work needs to be done. The evidence backs this up. I was just talking to my mom about her early 90s marketing job and the majority of it was writing a monthly newsletter. That’s it.
You can be dumb as f***k – lazy as f****k – but if you have Capital at the start of your life (rich family) then you are 1000x more likely to achieve a moderate level of richness (5 Million +) compared to the genious that starts from nothing. Its like people some people in a video game receiving 5x the resources and units compared to other players. Worst part is when these people win – they are treated like some strategic or tactical genious. If I get 5 units for every unit you have – I could be the greatest Idiot there is and even Grand Admiral Thrawn couldnt defeat me…..but hey guess im really smart or hard working or just better…. My former boss probnably has an IQ around 90 – but because he started with more money than most people earn in their entire life – he somewho…
