I started a new job working at a school for the first time ever. Benefits-awesome. Coworkers-pretty cool. Students-meh Pay-I will get to that in a second. So my job is to basically help kids with their learning when they don’t understand, help keep them on track, and just be there as a support for the teacher. I also do before school, lunch, and after school supervision. I’ve gained an incredible relationship with some of these kids and quite a few teachers though! I started mid January and got one day of training. So far, I’ve had multiple encounters where substitutes have relied on me to teach classes. I’ve had multiple students cuss me out when they were caught in areas they weren’t supposed to be. However I only make 1200 a month! And I get paid once a month! I cannot afford this and I feel horrible about quitting this…

Obviously we'd all rather have both, and all too frequently end up with neither. But if you got to choose “experience” or “leadership” as the more important quality for your boss to have, which one would you pick? Why? What type of experience matters? “Leadership” is a pretty broad term; does the specific leadership style matter? Does your answer depend on the work or industry? Does it depend on the size of your team or company? By “boss”, I'm meaning the person you directly report to – the person who directs your work, and tells you what to do.
I want to speak directly to the hard-working bad-asses. Those of you who make this world go round. This sub is a place of grievance and valuable education. We live in a dystopia. Such that has reduced, subjugated and devalued our work. Yet they desperately NEED us. Corporate (arrogantly) decidedly they can make demands, negotiate your payscale and exploit us. On the other end? We’ve also got some entitled cry-babies who don’t have it bad. And fired for a good reason. Those who redundancy is easily justified. Young white collars useless from the start. We are not God. We are anti-corporation and pro-human. So I ask you, how do we sort them out? Who deserves good lives? And who deserves elimination? Our vote? The rich kids. “Kids” who are over 40 yrs old, yet still scooping up horse shit from their boomer daddies. Boomer fucks that just won’t die.
i hope this is the right subreddit, i’ve never come to the internet for something like this before. if not, maybe some of you can direct me to the right place to ask. some backstory to be clear; ive worked at a franchised fast food location for the past 2 1/2 years, and as of this past year i decided to go to college. i am 20 if that matters and this was my first job (am now a shift manager). at my job only managers are allowed to close front, but any team member can close the kitchen. this is relevant as we only have 2 shift managers (myself included) currently due to one of us quitting and no one being hired in her place. we are open until midnight. this is only my second semester back in school but i am a full time student. i made this…
Considering a strike
My work isn’t unionized, but we are so fed up with our corporate office I’m considering bringing up our property going on strike. All of our housekeepers, front desk staff, even the supervisors. Some context: we have been getting a TON of negative reviews lately because our guest computer isn’t working (the motherboard is fried) and HQ isn’t letting us replace it; BOTH of our ice machines are broken beyond repair and instead of replacing them, HQ told us to just go get ice from the gas station (the guests are super pissed about that because sometimes we run out); our workout equipment is broken and HQ refuses to let us pay to have a tech come out to fix it; we still have water damage from flooding over Christmas (HQ decided to just have the water extracted from the carpet and skip the microbial treatment); one of our two…
Multiple coworkers have asked many times about getting direct deposit to which we’ve heard them say “we are looking into it” or “they are asking for to much money”. Myself as well as other have had a couple checks bounce do to “insufficient funds”. What needs to be done to make sure that we can get our money on time and not worry about checks bouncing?
Feel Like Quitting My Job (Rant)
Hey all. I'm an 18 y/o college freshman. Along with school, I started a menial retail job, do volunteer hours and am a captain of my school's competitive mock trial team (which takes up a majority of my time). I am also an honors student with plans to graduate early with two degrees. As you can probably tell, I'm exhausted. Everyone around me seems to downplay how much stuff I actually do. My family life is pretty conflicted and home (I live with parents and commute to save money) is often somewhere I don't want to be. I haven't gotten a chance to write, draw, play games, or just have alone time in a while. When I mentioned this to my boss he offered to shorten my hours, which was kind, but at this point I am doing so horrible mentally that I'm considering just quitting. I told my mom…
New Policy: Reimbursement
My husband’s job gives employees company credit cards for expenses especially while on a work trip. There is a new boss and he found out a few employees lost their credit card privileges because they used it for unapproved purchases. Now they are planning to take away everyone’s cards and employees will have to submit for reimbursement. These are expenses for hardware, parts, hotels, meals etc. If he is on a trip it has the potential to be $100s. To me, it feels like the employee is loaning money to the employer who pays it back without interest. Are there any options here? Besides getting a new job because he does very niche work and we would have to relocate.
