I work in education somewhere in Europe and I’m already barely making ends meet. Today our boss walked into a team meeting and told us not to get our hopes up too much when it comes to salary adjustments. Consumer price index is up 11% this month. Rents are projected to go up 5% for public housing, probably more for privately owned rental housing. Like the title says, why did I even bother going to school for this? If I’m gonna be broke and living check to check, I might as well do it without the drudgery of a job that takes up most of my time and energy.

I am currently bawling my eyes out in the storage area of my dead end office job I’ve been trying to leave for months now. I’ve must of submitted +200 applications on indeed and had a few interviews. Today, I just got a “Thank you for your interest but we’ve decided to pick someone else” from this one company I had several interviews with over the course of a month that I thought I definitely had. I feel stuck where I am now. I get my Bachelor’s in May but I fear it still wont be enough to get anything anywhere else. I am so sorry for ranting but I am just so tired and sad from constantly being rejected.
Dear small business owners
Instead of berating your employees about why you can’t pay them a living wage, join the fight against big, wealth-hoarding corporations which ensure you can’t pay.
I get back to work and everyone has taken the rest of the week off, leaving me by myself. I want to just not show up for the remainder of the week as I feel taken advantage of. What would you do?
America bought and paid for.
Congratulations!
I’ve been working at a company for about 6 months now and they just started to do layoffs in the last week. We went from ~110 employees (including a lot of temps) to about 60-70 employees and all of our temps are gone. Everyone I’ve talked to has said I’m good and they’re going to keep me around cause I do good work. I’ve just never dealt with this kind of thing before so I was wondering if I should be looking hard for a new job cause I had planned to be here a while but then this started happening. Overall the company doesn’t seem to be doing a lot of business but they’ve been saying we’re going to be very busy ‘soon’ since I got hired so idk what to believe. Anybody’s experience/advice about something similar would be great.
hello all, posting this through a throwaway I had recently joined a startup (around 4 months) ago Last month, I was told that there is going to be a salary cut of around 60% i.e I will receive only 40% salary of what i was promised until things get right for the startup just to add, i might also be given additional unrelated to my profile – job responsibilities over the period of next few months I dont want to burn bridges with them but its not feeling right to work. can you guys please suggest how do i go about it, and should i resign if at all and how to go about it without burning bridges.. im really confused and want opinion from people who have some experiences dealing with similar experiences. Im young (21-24) tiq
