you can take this job and shove it..
Thank you.
Wanted to say thank you everyone. This group has given me the courage to be uncomfortable standing up to company owners and HR. Today I went in for a review and they discussed my wages. When offered $1 hr raise I told them that it didn’t even keep up with inflation and for that I will have to seek employment elsewhere. They were shocked to say the least. After some uncomfortable discussion we landed on a $5hr raise! If not for this group I would’ve never had the courage to ask for a review yet alone a raise. Thank you all and remember…. We’re all in this together.
Owner is obsessed with Facebook
I work for a small business where the owner, in his 60’s, is on Facebook 24/7. This is no exaggeration. He post something at minimum every 30 minutes. We’ve been working in a hybrid work environment for 3 years. But now he wants us back in the office just to say we are in the office 5 days a week. He adds everyone whom works for him to FB, and therefore everyone can see all the crap he post. He doesn’t do any work, just sits there and plays on FB 24/7 for as long as I know. 10+ years. Even if he has work or needs something done, as small as writing an email, he gets someone else to do it for him. Walks in, never says hi to anyone, never asks how you’re doing. Just talks about himself and his multiple rental properties. In all the years I’ve…
New position, not being paid for it
So I work for company x for 5 years. There was some restructuring which landed me in a program manger position. Thing is, to make as much money as other program managers I have to “prove to them that I can actually do the work” however I was told that if they were to hire someone new off the street they would be compensated with the actual program manager pay. So essentially they want to under pay me a few months before actually giving me a raise and even have to go through and interview process which I was told again could take awhile, all while having to do the program management work. I’m in Massachusetts, anyone know if this is even legal?
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed a new rule this week that would crack down on taxing the service industry's tips. The Service Industry Tip Compliance Agreement (SITCA) proposal would be a voluntary program between the IRS and employers that the IRS says would 'decrease taxpayer and IRS administrative burdens and provide more transparency and certainty to taxpayers.' https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11728733/Taxpayer-advocates-fume-proposal-Bidens-IRS-crack-servers-TIPS.html
So most places I know you get more PTO or vacation days the longer you're with the company. But as anyone who's on this sub knows, your best way to increase your pay is switching companies. How do you get any tenure and get extra PTO if you change jobs often?
It's just a thought exercise. I'm curious of what people think.
