So, I am not allowed to get sick…
Hey all! been lurking for a while in this sub (to be honest it’s because the idea of not working has always been outlandish to me) and I was wondering why y’all are so against hiring at 15? I myself am 15 and got a job at 14 last year on my own accord because I needed the money and my state has pretty strict child labor laws. I can leave this job at any time and work in a few other places and I am doing the same job I’d be doing if I were older, but this allows me to get a bit of a jumpstart with experience and a couple grand in savings. For me it is a great situation, even if the job sucks, work was never meant to be heaps of fun and I get to be occupied when I’m not at school, I get…
Literally every other post on this subreddit has become screenshots of supposed “conversations” with bosses/supervisors. What a joke.
Not really surprising at all
Stuff is getting so expensive in places like walmart and other chain retailers. I used to shop there because it was more affordable than buying the quality stuff from my local farmers, butchers, bakers, and small business folk, but now? I think it's cheaper to buy local at this point if you can. Stick it to the corporations and their greed. If they keep raising prices on food and goods the locals are gonna beat their prices. I understand not everyone has the luxury of local businesses to support. If you can though, thats one less customer to the corporations. It's almost like they made the American people dependent on them over the last few decades with low prices. Now though, it seems their greed is getting the best of them and people don't want to spend $13 on aluminium foil, and $7 on bread.
I was going to get layoff!
The company where I spent a year decided to fire some employees because they don't have enough finance to pay all the salaries. And I was on the chopping block! I only learned it when I gave my resignation!!! I started to look for another job because I do the job of 4 people and that of a manager but with $450/per month. When I asked for a raise, my boss told me that I have to earn my salary and that only when I prove I merit that salary that she will consider a raise.
So, around a year ago, I left a major retailer as a Store Manager. I had an amazing lead, with me for 3 years, and there was absolutely nothing the guy couldn't do. He was my partner in every aspect. After I left, he ended up transferring to a store in So Cal as a Part-time Under associate. This comes with a 15 hr a week max. Recently, we've been in touch, commiserating over our lives as we used to, and he let's it slip that he rarely has a day off. Immediately, I'm confused as he is PT-U, and he should have plenty of days off. He tells me that they have been working him 30+ hours a week for the last year/year and a half. As far as I was aware, it was illegal to work a PT-U beyond their max for X amount of consecutive weeks. It's…
Manager issues?
So just prior to new years I had a medical emergency that forced me to leave my shift in a supermarket early (and subsequently vomit light pink liquid all over their toilet and more at home). The rest of the day was just pain and discomfort, severe lack of sleep which led to an awful day where I was pretty much in bed all day in pain due to a bowel obstruction which had popped up that first day. The third day I was just dead tired but not in as much pain so I came back to work the day after. The first thing the manager of my department asks is “how was your vacation?” As if he had no idea I was not in any condition to be working for those last two days, much less be there. It took almost a week in total for me to…
