Boss wants to sell to a country full of human rights violations

My boss has recently returned to his old position of power and wants to sell to a country (I can't say which) with so many human rights violations, I'm terrified cause this country would prosecute someone like me (a gay trans woman) but I can't leave cause I signed a new contract recently

had an availability change for university which i gave notice of and i’m being written up, what should i do?

hey, i’m a university student who works part time in retail. i’ve had a change on my timetable so that i now have two important seminars on tuesday and i’m not able to work my scheduled shifts on these dates for the next two weeks. i messaged my manager about this on the 8th, the shifts i can’t do were meant to be on the 17th and 24th. so i’ve given 10 days advance notice for the first shift and over two weeks for the second. when i went into my shift on the 10th i asked the manager if she’d seen my messages, she said no as her phone wasn’t giving her notifications for the platform we use for work communications. she told me i had to find my own cover for these shifts, that i haven’t given enough notice, and that i should have messaged another staff member…

Incumbent Employee ghosted by new Government Contractor

I've hopped jobs before. I've been fired before. I've been laid off before (with notice), and I've pursued new opportunities while working. I'm honestly (sadly) used to the whole song-and-dance of applying for a job, and receiving radio silence after an interview to indicate “No, we don't want you”. But never before have I ever encountered a situation like one I'm experiencing right now. As a government contractor, “rebadging” is a fact of life, when one employer loses their contract to another company. Normally, the new employer will pick up the incumbent workers (rebadge), or tell them “Sorry, your position is gone, you need to find work before your contract ends”. I've been on both sides of this before, both as the contractor and as the corporation doing the transition. But this time was different. After doing the “Incumbent Questionnaire” three times, applying for my own position just as many…

Husband wants me to go to labor board

So back story, I just left my previous job as a night security guard. It was a pretty decent gig in the beginning but then things really started going down hill when I saw how shit the management was. My husband thinks I should go to the labor board and I just don’t know if there’s enough to warrant it or if they’d just laugh me out. So here goes the list of shit we had to deal with: 1) we NEVER saw the manager or owner. I met the “manager” during training but afterward never saw him again (until I told him I wouldn’t answer my personal phone and he could text me to respond or talk in person. *I’ll explain why later) 2) we were hourly but they automatically took a 1/2 hour lunch off our pay. Didn’t matter if we took it, unless we reached out to…

What are some of the place to get started? So that I can do what I love and be financially stable.

Hello Reddit, Freelance video editor and filmmaker here who is trying to run his own creative agency for a creator economy friendly future. But developing a startup has it's own financial drawbacks. I do not want to join any company (or work per say the classic 9-to-5). I am pretty decent at my craft (you can be a judge – https://app.frame.io/r/f3aa8cf3-afbe-4243-a909-9e1f5bf9e489 ) The issue that I am currently facing is while trying to find gigs from various freelancing sites I feel like there is too much crowd pre-existing in order to suffice as a new freelancer. Where do you think I should look for an attention arbitrage so that I can continue doing what I love while still being financially stable? Not looking for classic examples that are saturated. A good example where I am getting some hits will be a linkedin hashtag that I recently discovered.

Just a question: If my boss has owed me money for3+ months with promises that it will be on my next check, how seriously would the department of labor take this issue?

Not sure if this belongs here, but I’ve seen quite a few members comment on Labor Board processes albeit different circumstances. I’ve been bartending at my job since October, and have been scheduled as such. Unfortunately I didn’t start getting paid proper wages for such (though promised otherwise, in person and over text) until the last week of December. He has told me verbally it will be on my next paycheck for the last 3 weeks. We don’t get paid until next week and if I am not paid is it worth it to report?
