I went above and beyond. One of their best workers and all I originally got was 4% they video called me to tell me I'm now at 3% and losing 20 cents I'm so pissed. How is this fucking legal. Inflation is at an all time high but let's just keep shitting on our workers.

Conversation with my Mother
This is my first post in this subreddit so please bear with me. I live in Louisiana and I was visiting my mom in Chicago for the holidays. I currently work 2 jobs (one of which is a part time job that pays $9/hr) My mother asked me how much this particular job pays and I told her. She was so shocked with disbelief. She then asks “how do you afford rent with that?” And went on to tell my entire family (which embarrassed the fuck out of me) That conversation made me realize that I am anti work. Moving forward I don’t want to work for an employer who thinks I’m only worth $9. It also made me realize that people her age (50s and 60s) are so unaware of cost of living, minimum wage, rent etc. how can we change this?
One of my employees is having some health struggles right now, he may need surgery in February and will need some time to recover. He was clearly anxious and scared about any impact to his job security and it was just so sad to me. Evidently he's been 'let go' in the past when needing time off due to this issue. That's not a problem here thankfully, we have robust policies around medical leave, but the relief in his face when I told him not to worry about his job was so palpable my heart just went out to him. This has clearly been eating him up for days and days now. Tying health insurance to work here in the US should be criminal 🙁
