So my job is interesting
So I work for a gas station company right now. Nothing much but I was technically working for it's sister company until it was bought out by the State. Mind you the other company owned get payed more than we did. Right now I'm just hopped from other stores despite not being payed the same as the other company and I'm not expecting a raise or at least a match with everyone else until the main store I'm hired on is finished being built. Which by the way is about a .50 raise and to top it all off the GM of the store I'm at is apparently a Nazi. The only reason I haven't quit is because I have several bills looming over my shoulder
Resigned from an unsafe workplace today
I'm a tradie in Australia. I don't get the same exposure to terrible bosses as Americans in this place but I have a tale for you. I started at a Fire Detection company two weeks ago. My manager didn't bother to get my uniform sizes prior to starting so I had to wear my own gear. Note: I need to wear hi-vis and a hardhat most places I go. These weren't supplied on day one when I got sent to an abbatoir. Abbatoir's in Australia have a risk of Q-Fever, a risk I wasn't aware of at all. I was sent to this site to conduct work as a visitor, not an inducted contractor. And I didn't have the appropriate PPE to work safely on this site. Safe to say, as someone who is very safety conscious this event made sure I was checking out of this company day one.…
Overtime vs scheduled hours
Hello folks, I work at a well known grocery retailer that pays 1.5x wage on Sunday for any hours worked. Conveniently I work every Sunday and am scheduled 2 weekdays off as a full time hourly employee. This week myself and several others in my department came in on days off to help with the immense workload. We have all been told this time would be paid overtime as we all came in on scheduled days off. Now here lies the issue…. We all work Sunday, and Sunday overtime does not stack with Sunday premium pay. So on the pay stub we will have 8+ hrs of Sunday overtime which is the exact same pay as our standard scheduled Sunday shift. In WA state, is this wage theft? We were told by management that coming in on scheduled days off would be paid overtime but when the pay stubs roll…
Fired for NOT drinking
I was talking to my friend last night. She was fired because she didn’t attend a holiday Christmas party at a bar. The only activity of the party was to get drinks and play darts. She is newly sober and explain this to her boss. She didn’t feel strong enough to not be tempted by alcohol. My friend said they kept guilt tripping her a couple weeks before the party to just “stop in”. She explain why she didn’t want to over and over. I’m really proud of her. This week they let her go citing “not participating in work functions” as the reason. Her sobriety is more important that he stupid boss’ party (and ego).
Stolen wages
I'm a lab technician and my employer said no overtime. Due to people calling out, there's a deficient in people working so we have to work longer. Someone I work with has reached over 40 hours and our employer neglected to pay her the difference. She won't file a wage theft complaint because she doesn't want the drama. I've decided to work over 40 hours and hope they do the same to me. On top of this the company has fucked over night crew by not providing health insurance, our manager literally told us to go to costco If we want benefits.
This might be unpopular opinion even in this sub but I think companies are just using recession as an excuse to throw people out or scaring them enough so that they don't demand for pay raise and work their a*s off .. I don't believe the economy is that bad as much as companies are reacting …
I've had enough of it, and so has everyone else. I'm tired of big corporations owned by few taking over most of the business that was once owned by regular people like you and I. They came in with cheaper prices because they got everything cheaper in mass bulk from pee in the bucket wages in another country. So much that local average people in this country couldn't possibly compete because all those local businesses all bought from other local businesses that have to follow laws , and have proper worker safety, and comply with minimum wage standards whereis the other countries where these big corps buy from don't have to follow any rules we follow. They have workers in a steel mill coming in with Sandles breathing in toxic fumes for 23 cents an hr. Of COURSE the price is cheaper. I want everyone reading this to one day…
