I am currently working as a dishwasher for 6 days a week at minimum wage (despite the “labor shortage”) because I can't get hired as analyst programmer despite having over 6 years of education and a degree in computer science. I need help to get out of this field and possibly even leaving for a janitorial job. Just hire me as something else than a dishwasher. Education just indebted me and kept me chained at a job which I hate. I would take any jobs that isn't dishwasher, any ideas on getting hired at any other MINIMUM WAGE job that isn't fast food or dishwashing?
Today during our lunch period, between 1100-1300, our manager decided to pop up. Unfortunately, I had decided to take my allowed 30 mins at the same time she arrived. About 45 minutes later they announce a conference call via email to be held in 5 minutes, yes only 5 minutes to notice and call in. She enforced the 30 minute lunch period and further shared if you need more time you have to take leave. IMO 30 mins is not near enough time to travel, eat, digest, etc. It's wild to me that such a restriction can be held over employees heads and it's sickening to my mental health. Less micro managing and more freedom increases my productivity.
long story short cause I could rant for days about this place. I worked for a large tech/software development company, but my department was genuinely treated like a small team and had our own subculture that was friendly and inviting. I worked as general IT support for them for around 6 months when some incidents occurred and I was promoted to the role in their cybersecurity team, which was now myself and an analyst. I busted my ASS for these guys making below the market value of helpdesk support because having this company and this promotion would have taken off around 5 years off my career and gotten me where I needed to be. Even now, I still support that notion IF you use it to leverage a better position elsewhere, but I definitely should have left by now and done just that. I grinded out on-call without extra pay…
It’s make or break time…
For the past six months I have been working as a dishwasher for a locally owned restaurant. The place has heft in terms of influence around the city. I have a knack for it, and I'm quick on my feet. The people do seem to care, and I can tell the chef's anything if I'm having a rough go. Thing is, there is two other dishers, a couple, who are constantly slacking, walking in and out, talking on their phones, literally sitting down. It is constant. Now I have brought this up to the higher ups. I keep getting told it will be dealt with. But nothing ever resolves. To add to the matter I am a single Father. My schedule has never been full time, scarcely over 30 hours. The whole time of my employment, I have offered to help with anything they need at all. As a result…
