Wouldn't that be something if the Netflix password sharing crackdown would be the final straw for greed in America. For it to start a revolution and for fair wages and workers rights. Somehow in this crazy upside world there might be some truth to this statement.

I know there’s probably little sympathy for highly compensated big tech workers right now, but I wanted to give some insight into some of the struggles those recently laid off are facing and how it plays into the overall systemic issues we’ve all been dealing with. For those that don’t know, most big tech companies pay a base salary and award additional stock on top of that. Those are called Restricted Stock Units or RSUs. The way they work is you are given a certain amount of of them, but cannot access any of them immediately. They use something called a vesting schedule. Most companies have them vest over 4 years with various periods in between but let’s assume every 6 months. This means you get 1/8 of the stock you were awarded every 6 months for 4 years. I started this job a year and a half ago in a low level management position and was asked to complete a corporate management style personality test. The test evaluates your personality with a corporate mindset, and compares your scores to the scores of other successful executives in the company. The test was explained to me as a tool they can use to develop the parts of my personality that need to be improved relative to the scores of the executives. Super brain dead way of thinking, but I needed the job. A year and a half later, the test has been forgotten about, and has not been used to develop the “lacking” parts of my personality.
