I’ve seen and heard about “union busting” practices in the US, which obviously benefits the employer, but I’ve never really understood what the downsides are for an employee. What are the biggest arguments? Coming from an EU country where unions are just a natural part of business, employment and society, I fail to see why people would forego the benefits with the small exception of the cost which is higher in the US I believe (I pay $12/mo). Perhaps also “free market” thinkers/republicans, but aren’t they often NOT in the low/mid income jobs where unions are most relevant?

The start-up I have worked at for the past 3 years just purchased a competitor last week, and this morning I went to log on for work (I WFH), and I couldn't log on to anything. Confused, I sent my boss a text, and at the same time, I received an email saying “This email is to inform you that your position has been selected as part of the reduction in force that was announced at 8 AM this morning by our CEO, via email. Your last day with ***** will be today.” So what about the people from the company we acquired, you ask? Did they get let go, too? “Get a doctors note”
I work at a place that rhymes with “Bernards” and had to call out sick today for stomach problems I’ve been having a couple days. Was told to get a doctors note to excuse the “point” that will be added to my record or something. But two will still be added for calling in sick. I wish I could just quit with all these dumbass policies, but I’m in college and need this job. Boy, do I really fucking hate working and living in this country.
Idk sounds like a management problem
You probably scrolled on YouTube and you see these generic rich people interviews. “If you do this, this and that, you will become rich”. As if they cracked some code or something. “You got to wake up at 4:30AM and workout, you have to start a business, you have to invest”. Then they talk about how “the poors hate us because they’re slaves and haven’t cracked the code”. Then they say “you might as well pursue these because it’s better than being a slave to the system”. Is anyone else tired of seeing these pseudo-intellectuals trying to sound like they got it figured out? Acting like people suffering is just a choice?
