Apparently during Covid my Fortune 500 company changed policy; previously we could accrue something like 6 weeks of sick time. Any LOA was voluntary.
During Covid, I took 2 weeks to recover (unplanned) from hernia surgery. After the dust settled, it seems my company put me in Leave of Absence state for one week (the 2nd week) as per (new) company policy.
I am paid maybe 60% from some LOA money pool and they charge me COBRA rate for health Ins, (another 40% ?) . So that's a nice kick in the ass when I'm sick.
So, basically accrued sick time is shit now; nothing over 40 hrs consecutive. So now if I see I have around 60, I just call in sick.
