Babies or Bosses?

I am just so pissed off. I mean, we survived two years working from home. We never failed to get a task done on time or get an item to a client. We just worked it all out. We were asked to return to the office full time with the option to allow all of us to apply for a continued work from home – full, or partial, schedule. There was no guarantee it would work for every position but many people applied. Two of us support staff in my office were granted a partial wfh schedule and are able to split the week.

We each work two days in the office and three at home. This leaves one day where there may not be support staff physically in the office. (We have a receptionist there and several other support staff in different positions but not Admin. Assistants.) We’ll be working, just from home.

But some of the bosses can’t handle that support staff are not physically there. They are having tantrums.

When asked if something did not get done, the answer is no, everything got done. When asked if there was a task that required support staff physical presence, the answer is no. When asked if we are doing a good job, the answer is yes! But they just have to have someone there.

They can come in when they want. They can leave when they want. They can work from home when they want.

But the world ends if we work our COMPANY APPROVED schedule and aren’t there to make them comfortable.

I am so much happier being home three days a week. I am able to manage my home and family better. I am not spending two hours a day commuting. I can afford gas for two days a week. My job is so very stressful, this makes it tolerable.

The writing on the wall is there. Our partial work from home schedule will be ending. But hey, who was I, thinking I mattered?
