I am relatively experienced in big tech. I was at a job and another big tech company reached out with a role. I told them I would not consider leaving my current job for less than X comp.
They had me go through 8 interview rounds for a manager role. Then I didn't hear anything for weeks. Then suddenly an email that said “Hi Fred (my name is Jenny), we are happy to offer you X entry level position.” Salary was ~60% of what I asked for.
I responded “hi. This is Jenny not Fred. I think you sent me someone else's offer”
They responded “no, it's for you”
Me “but that's not the job I interviewed. It pays way less than I make today. I told you my minimum comp requirement is Y”
They said “oh ok”
Seriously?
