Boss Approved Only One Day Off for Surgery Recovery – Ridiculous!

I recently requested time off for a surgery that requires 5 days of recovery without talking, coughing, whispering, or laughing. My job involves talking to people all day, every day. I submitted my LOA request, detailing the need for a full 5-day recovery period. Guess what? My boss handed it back with a post-it note saying, “Approved for the day of the surgery but expected back the next day,” and suggested there'd be paperwork in place to avoid me using my voice. How am I supposed to recover properly if I can't follow my doctor's orders? This is beyond frustrating and feels completely unreasonable. Just had to vent about this nonsense. Edit: this blew up. For context I am not in the US. I work in a school in the UK. Do not worry, I will be taking the time off.
