So I did a really good job at my work for two years. I had other teachers and people I worked with say I did a great job. The manager was always happy with my work.
However, it was my time to move on so I put in my notice five weeks before leaving. I am not under contract, but I do work at a school so according to the principal who is my manager, he felt it was too late to be putting my notice in. In actuality, he’s an at-will employer and I’m an at-will employee, and I do not need to give longer notice than that.
He basically told me that I ruined everything and it was late notice but when I talked to some of the other teachers they said it was actually really really good because two weeks is standard even for school. They just don’t wanna have to find someone to train.
This is frustrating because number one he told me that it was all my fault and he said that their program could be ruined because of me. he also asked private reasons of why I was leaving which I told him some things but not the whole picture. He also asked what he should tell all of the student body which I thought was private inappropriate. he never did that with the other teacher who left.
Also, I have asked him for a letter of recommendation twice by email and once by text but he seems to be pulling a passive aggressive and not getting back to me and my last day has passed already.
I feel kind of like I’m so drained from the whole situation and working at the school was so draining and it burnt me out I almost feel like maybe eight moving forward I should just forget about the whole thing. However, my friend who is a retired teacher told me that I should get a letter of recommendation at least because that’s proof that I worked here. What are you guys think?
