I work retail at a very specialized supplier. I am a product specialist and people for a thousand miles in any direction travel to consult with me specifically. So I am pretty valuable.
But I've been telling the boss for six years that we need better storage and product displays. One rack in particular takes up 8×26 feet of floor space. In the last two years weve sold three items off that rack for a total value of less than a 1000$.
Meanwhile product I can flip EASY is buried in corners and cubbys and it's a real challenge to move that product. But the rack hides my bosses door to his office and he hates being called onto the floor for anything. He wants to hide and do the bare minimum.
Corporate just did an inspection and they say we need better storage. Staff have been begging for it because it is absolutely more work than it's worth to try and deal with this one corner of the store.
How do we convince him to just upgrade the displays? I've even offered to BUILD a special rack myself that could replace the current one with something that works. But he just refuses.
It's gotten to the point that the product we can't have on display, if asked about I just say we don't have it..
I just can't be bothered fishing it out of where it's hiding to show customers.
How am I supposed to do my job when my manager won't do his?
