Boss makes me look stupid in front of a client because I followed his rules, and it didn’t go the way he wanted.

So my boss tells me we are now charging for estimates, although our website and social media advertises them as free, and he won't change it. A new client calls needing a very large and expensive job done. I let him know the fee, he is rightfully upset and tells me its ridiculous, I agree with him but he is still angry. I apologize profusely and tell him I am just relaying information from my boss and I have no idea why he refuses to update our website and social media. I tell my boss something along the lines of “Hey this client says nevermind because of the fee”. Boss is pissed at me for “losing such a good job” even though I was DIRECTLY following his orders that I already don't agree with. So basically I have to enforce this new rule that completely contradicts our advertisements, unless certain clients don't agree with it then I can let it slide??
