I do a delivery driving job. I start each day at 7:30 stocking my truck up. I usually get done around 4:30-5. Last month they added a new stop to my route that created six more hours of work a week and eight hundred pounds of freight delivered a day, as well as about six hundred picked up. No matter how many hours I work a day I get a flat rate of $125 bucks. I asked for a $5 dollar a day raise and was told that ” we will have to see what the numbers say” whatever rhat means.
I worked recently for a week with a high fever, choking on phlegm, half functioning. I asked for assistance and was told there was nobody who could help. Then I was asked to help a coworker who got himself stuck in a yard. I drove out, transfered some of his freight, did an hour of his work, and missed two hours of time with my wife and baby. He complained about me for three days after, fir not taking another hours worth of his stops.
They rewarded me with a $10 dollar gift card to a fast food place for working while sick, and a printed “certifcate” for employee of the week.
I drive all day in a truck with no AC in almost 100 degree weather. I'm constantly chugging water to stay cool but it isn't enough.
Recently, our competitors were discussing going on strike. This would increase our work load exponentially. The owner of our company was asked about pay increases if the strike happend, and she waffles for a bit before acting like we are on a tight budget.
Then she left for a three week traveling vacation.
In her driveway are classic cars and trucks, they have jet skis and boats and throw regular parties.
I have been applying for different jobs for months now, even doing in person interviews. They promise to call me back whether I get the job or not……then nothing. My dad says “talk to the hiring manager in person” so I do that and then am directed to a hiring website and told ” we look forward to your application, we really need more people!” Then nothing. I guess I'm venting a bit here. Wish I'd gotten a cdl instead of putting it off. Then maybe I'd be paid for the efforts I put in.
