Boss wants us in the office more.

In todays virtual meeting my boss started w/ “I know this will make everyone unhappy but you need to come into the office 3 days a week” Currently we are kind of doing two after being fully remote for a year of covid. Most of us either stopped going in two days, or were leaving early to WFH which pissed off my boss and kind of back fired. I think he feels he lost control/ authority and now he wants us back 3 days. Here were the reasons: 1. Fear of losing office space 2. He said it’s just nice to see everyone 3. Collaboration 4. Less mistakes. We lost our manager a year ago, so assuming mistakes have more to do with that than WFH The irony is this is a non profit where are salaries are terrible & honestly everyone I hasn’t left the company yet because of…

Here were the reasons:
1. Fear of losing office space
2. He said it’s just nice to see everyone
3. Collaboration
4. Less mistakes. We lost our manager a year ago, so assuming mistakes have more to do with that than WFH

The irony is this is a non profit where are salaries are terrible & honestly everyone I hasn’t left the company yet because of flexibility of WFH.

I’m pissed and know I need to look for a new job which really sucks because I would have stayed so much longer if we were WFHx Here’s my current plan in the meantime: go in three days a week for a few weeks to test the water. Ask if I can do 4 days a week in office in the am and WFH in afternoons. No, I won’t be taking off afternoons but honestly the worst part of being in the office for me is the 1-5 portion where everyone is exhausted on their phones or gossiping constantly because they are bored.

How can I present this option to my boss in a beneficial way? One coworker already does it, but I’m sure he is worried everyone will want to. Just trying to preserve some mental sanity here. Also, I was recently passed up for a promotion and don’t see much growth at this company, so I’m trying to just keep my head low, and keep my sanity.
