This is more of a vent/rant out of grief for my brother’s situation, a couple weeks ago both my dad and my brother were assaulted unprompted by a man we had never met before. My brother had his finger nearly bit off, and my dad was bludgeoned and sustained damage to his skull. The police had to sedate the man to get him away from continuing to attack them. It was my brother’s 19th birthday.
My brother’s finger was pretty mangled and likely was going to have permanent damage preventing use. He’s been to the doctors a lot these past couple weeks to try and save it; hoping to eventually regain use. He’s been missing a lot of work too, as he is seeing specialists and they can be kind of difficult to get in with. He’s been in pain, and now unfortunately infection has taken hold and made its way into his finger bones. They will be amputating it tomorrow.
Today, his job fired him. His source of income is gone. They took away his source of income because he was desperately trying to keep his hand intact, and now he’s lost both his job and his finger. If it weren’t for my parents being willing to help financially support him through this as well as the kindness of people on Gofundme, I can’t imagine the position he would be in otherwise. It’s unfathomably heartless, he could’ve been back to work on Monday as on the days he didn’t have doctors appointments he was going to work with his mangled and infected finger. It’s been agonizing for him, you really do not fathom the total range of usage each one of your fingers has until you can’t use it. My heart hurts for him, I’m so mad for him, I want to march into that company and tear it all down for being so cruel. I cannot fathom how they possibly are treating people with more severe injuries, it makes me sick to my stomach. Thank you for reading, I hate corporate America. It’s a foundational, soulless entity that does not truly empathize with the existing workforce; just how deeply the workforce can be exploited.
