Building the means of production

I'm so tired of working for entitled franchise owners that feel like I should be greatful for my employment, despite only giving me a small percent of their profits. I want to work, I just want to be apreciated for it and compensated apropriately. How does this happen? Could you as an example get together with friends and build a few windmills, sharing the profits over time? Could you build houses with friends, rent them out and get loans against them to build more? Personally, I'm great at electrical work and would be happy to work for free if it meant building up some passive income over time.
