Burger King

I (F18) worked at Burger King for 10 months, and I was a shift supervisor. Most days, the day shift had 7 to 8 people. Overstaffed, normal staffing is 5 to 6. On many occasions, they said they were severely understaffed… meanwhile, my closing shifts, from 2pm to 11pm, had two to three. Rarely had 4, but we were “overstaffed”.. My last day working there consisted of me being with a single employee for 8 hours, I had a fever, mind you. 102-degree fever, shaky and weak and throwing up. One other employee, and he had low blood sugar. I called the district manager because my store managers were BOTH on vacation and wouldn't pick up. He said, “Why are you calling me tough it out?” My other employee left at 8 pm because he had a health emergency and his family had to take him to an urgent care.…

My last day working there consisted of me being with a single employee for 8 hours, I had a fever, mind you. 102-degree fever, shaky and weak and throwing up. One other employee, and he had low blood sugar. I called the district manager because my store managers were BOTH on vacation and wouldn't pick up. He said, "Why are you calling me tough it out?" My other employee left at 8 pm because he had a health emergency and his family had to take him to an urgent care. I was left alone as a young woman. From 8 pm to 11pm because I was expected to do nightly inventory (normally about 20 minutes), month end inventory (takes a full day with correct staff), clean the entire store (alone could take up to 4 hours), count the safe and register drawers (20 to 30 minutes) and do paperwork ( 10 minutes at most), stock everything (40 minutes if alone), and fill the ice machines (I couldn't do I was weak bc of the fever), AND KEEP THE STORE OPEN. I went home that night and cried to my parents, they told me to quit. I asked my best friend and boyfriend what I should do as well, and both of them had been telling me to quit for months because of the shitty management and staffing, I was treated poorly in general. There's a lot more shit where this post came from. The next morning, my fever had not let up at all, I had not been able to keep any food down for 48 hours by this point. I showed up to work. The first thing I got was "What the fuck is wrong with you? This store looked horrible. Nothing was stocked. Nothing was clean, and there were 5 dollars missing. They were screaming about me being incompetent and other rude comments. I just quietly said, "I was alone. I haven't been able to eat in 48 hours.. I have a 102-degree fever. I am done." I set my uniforms down and left. I got about 30 calls in total, and like 20 texts saying wtf is wrong with me, and just continuing the slander. I blocked them all. It's been about a month, and I almost have my dream job, getting paid more as an entry-level educational assistant than I was as a supervisor. I was working 45 to 50 hour work weeks as a part-time employee as weak at BK. Now I'm working about 40 with insurance and benefits. I was able to lower my dosage of anxiety medication. I am no longer as depressed. I lost 20 lbs of unhealthy weight. I gained while working there. I've never been better. Especially since my family, best friends, and boyfriend were here with me every step of the way.
