Called in sick before start of shift. Manager throws a fit.

Started developing cold symptoms yesterday and although I was feeling fine during the day, it took a turn for the worse in the middle of the night. My shift starts at 6am so ended up texting my boss at that time telling him I was not gonna be able to make it. He replied right away saying that calling in sick right at the beginning of the shift will not be tolerated in the future. Am I in the wrong here? How much of an advance notice can I give next time when my shift start this early in the morning? Seems irrational and inconsiderate to me to text someone at 2am to tell them you won’t be going in the morning just for the sake of giving reasonable advance notice. Anyhow, I’d like to keep this incident recorded if I’m ever reprimanded or terminated for calling in at last…
