Came back from being absent 5 days due to an emergency, worked 40 hours plus overtime the week I returned. Was fired the following week because management decided my absence wasn’t ok.

Generally, I'm guessing management was/is really incompetent. Anybody else experience anything like this? I always had a positive attitude, no history of disciplinary action, no history of poor job performance. Management goes 0 to 100 “we changed our mind, you're fired.” I was pretty surprised and caught off guard. There were probably things I could have said to try and keep my job, but what can you say when you're surprised?
