Can employer fire you for asking for a schedule that accommodate religious observance?

My last post got deleted Idk why. My initial question is, can an employer fire you for asking them to modify your schedule to accommodate your religious observance? The details behind this concern are that I have a friend whose Sabbath starts when the sun goes down on Friday evening and lasts 24 hours. They just started a job and are in their second week of training. He’s a bit hesitant to ask due to his social anxiety. They would like to approach their manager to inquire about adjusting their schedule, considering daylight savings time is approaching, to ensure there are no conflicts with their Sabbath.
