I worked at a small framing company with 3 other coworkers, we all decided to quit because of the way the were treating us. My friend noticed his direct deposit wasn't showing pending in his bank account, which it usually is the day before Payday. He asked the boss if the check would be mailed or if it had to be picked up and the boss said that it had to be signed for on the worksite tomorrow. We've been getting direct deposit the whole time working there and now they want to make us drive 40+ minutes to get our checks and sign something. I googled if final paychecks have to be signed for in Michigan and nothing came up but it said
“An employer shall not require the employee to sign a release of the employee's right to any wages that are due and earned by the employee, unless those wages have been paid. Some employers hold their employee's final paycheck “hostage” until the employee signs a release or some type of termination form.”
The company is run by really petty people with terrible emotional control and I had a feeling they would try and pull something like this if we quit
