I work casual for a restaurant as a kitchen cleaner/dishwasher supervisor. I got a call from my MIL that my partner was in a car accident and that I had to leave. He said it was fine but he wants proof of it as a valid reason for leaving work.
I'm not being paid for my absence nor do I want compassionate/family leave for the 5hrs I missed of a shift. He was vague about what exactly he wants me to provide, just some form of proof. I'm not exactly going to take a photo of my partner in hospital to satisfy him and I'm don't feel comfortable sending my partners medical info to the company. It makes me extremely angry that instead of offering any support, they don't care and just want proof for me not being at work for 5hrs.
So my question is, do I really need to provide anything? And can I face consequences for not providing it?
