Can’t get ahead if the goal posts keep moving.

Four months ago when I was only getting offers for 21/hour, I was looking at apartments in the area and thinking “if only I could make 25/hour, I could move into a nice one bedroom for 1350”. Now that I FOUND a job that pays me 25/hour, suddenly it feels like all the appts even REMOTELY close are all over 1350 a month (1350 being the most I could spend on rent without not eating or paying student loans or losing my car). The appts in my budget, for one thousand, three hundred and fifty a month are literal closets. Floor space for a twin bed and a microwave. I don’t live in NYC, why is it like this???
