I saw a post where OP was saying that 40 hours a week for work is too much. I agree with the post, but there were a lot of comments from people basically saying that anyone who doesn't want to work 40 hours a week is just lazy. This is something that bothers me so much because there are so many people that aren't actually lazy, there are just so many other things they would rather do that they find more fulfilling than going to a job. Personally, I don't want to not work so that I can just do nothing all the time, I want to not work so that I can do SO MUCH MORE. There is so much to learn and experience about the world, but there's not enough time because 40+ hours doesn't allow for that. Sure, you can engage in some hobbies, but there's not…

I have worked cleaning theaters, serving concessions, and welcoming audiences through every major film since 2019. Star Wars 9, Frozen 2, No Way Home… Nothing compares to Barbie… All of our 17 showings per day for Barbie are a fucking chore. Trash everywhere, popcorn spilled, drinks spilled on the floor with not one person contacting an employee beforehand for a simple heads up. Every time I work now is absolute dread. Our job is not to be your maid, it’s to help you enjoy your film and go home happy. I should not be spending upwards of 40 minutes cleaning an auditorium full of trash… And on top of that, a large sum of customers where I live are entitled assholes. Yes, we know it’s expensive but it isn’t our fault so when your popcorn and drink cost $15 don’t threaten to kill me please I can’t handle it any…
I signed on at one rate, received my first check, and my pay rate is a dollar more. I know that you can be forced to pay back overpayments, so I mentioned this to the HR lady that does payroll. She said “well, this stays between you me and your trainer”, (he was sitting with me), “I won’t tell! If they catch it later I’ll let them know that you informed me and I simply forgot to look into it” Is this gonna come back to bite me in the ass? Should I go to my supervisor and inform him? Do I just take the free raise? If she says she will take the blame, am I still subject to paying back the overpayment?
Is it legal to record while working
I’m in NC, and they are making me delete recordings after finding out I recorded. Claiming it’s illegal. Is this true? Pretty sure it’s legal
I read a study that said the average American feels like they need to make $239,000/year to feel secure, where the median household income is $71,000. While this is likely skewed because of people who live in the city, lifestyle inflation, etc., even then it still seemed high to me. How much do you think you’d need to make to feel financially secure?
So, I worked as a dishwasher for several months, quit, and now I'm working at retail. I'm not gonna praise the new job: the things it's giving me are just standard. But I'm just gonna highlight things I have that how the FUCK did I not have before. Breaks: yep. No breaks! I had a 9 and a half hour shift once. Didn't complain. Didn't ask for help. Just toughed it out. I just thought that that was standard. Knowing what my pay was: when I got “”promoted”” from a host, they just didn't disclose payment. I ASSUMED it would be more, but didn't wanna press it cause I didn't wanna be rude. Turns out, I was still making exactly the same: minimum wage. (Deducted by $3/hr for their meal plan!) Having the “right to know”: my new job, as per what I'm assuming are legal requirements, let me know…
I interviewed for a seasonal retail position recently and the manager was absent mindedly asking me questions while continuing her work. I tell her I'm looking to work as a stocker but keeps pushing me to accept a cashier position instead. She hands me some papers, tells me I'm hired but doesn't mention how much I'll be earning per hour. Says she'll email me about it later. (Nevwr even received that email) I also mentioned that I'm looking for part time but was ignored and she kept pushing full time on me. I already go to school full time (mon-fri 9am-1pm) so I wanted to work Fridays-Sundays for a few hours. I mistakenly fill out a part of the form I wasn't supposed to and she turns around and asks one of her employees to hand me another form. Her employee hands me the forms while muttering under her breath…
Well that sucks
I had to take off some personal days this week due to a family situation. I work for a small company. About 6 employees. I got back to work on Wednesday and my coworker turns to me and goes “so how do you feel about the schedule change”. I was like what schedule change. Apparently there was a huge meeting on Monday where everyone was informed our hours are getting cut in half. No one decided to inform me about this. I texted my manager and she was like oh right you were not there. So FML I just found out I need a new job because who can live on 20 hours/week.
I desperately want to WFH full time, for all the reasons everyone else does. But a different take on it, is that I am learning spanish. During the pandemic I started teaching myself spanish through comprehensible input. Right now (2 years in) I am at a point where I know I would be able to be at the next level, if I had the ability to live in a spanish speaking country for even a month. Almost all jobs where I am located, say on their listings “strong preference for spanish speaking ability” if not “spanish speaking required” Cool, but for the people who don't know spanish, can you give us the opportunity to learn? I could be remotely working from a number of spanish speaking countries with minimal or no time difference, while simultaneosly aquiring a skill that would help both me and you. But instead my job is…
