Facing the repercussions of expecting integrity from a Small Business

TLDR: Owners had their “Business Consultant” meet with me. Was pretty inappropriate; ultimately tried to bully me into quitting. I didn’t so I was fired. Main worry is if I can legally post the video I have from this inappropriate interaction. I was fired from my Store Manager position a few weeks ago in (my belief) direct retaliation of my standards and expectations for Maturity and Responsibility amongst the Owners and “Upper Management”. I had heard a lot of negative things about this specific “small business”, but it was convenient and a decent opportunity. This place also advertised themselves as being progressive. I have a lot of experience working in food service, hospitality, and just general customer facing service type jobs. I pretty much immediately noticed issues. Essentially everything from staffing issues, food storage and handling, customer service, quality control, adherence to labor laws. This place does not pay their…

Just got a rejection from a Dream Job….for the 6th time in a row.

Hey guys, I was laid off in May, I've been doing some casual job searching for these last few months. Out of nowhere, a Big Media / Entertainment Company gave me an interview offer. I was ecstatic, told all of my friends and family, did a ton of research, and after a bit of anxiety, I went into the call, eager and determined to finally land that position. The guy calls me 30 minutes early, and was yawning the entire time. He couldn't have been less interested in the call, and had 2-word answers for all of my questions. He was strangely combative, for no apparent reason, and asked me questions that he'd know the answer to if he just read my resume. Later he told me his calendar gave him the wrong information for the time of our call and couldn't even take accountability for his mistake. The call…

I can’t make sense of my job

I (29F) started working for an HVAC company three weeks ago as an assistant. I have no experience in the area, but I was desperate for any type of job since I’ve been unemployed for most of my 20s. The owner is a pretty eccentric guy. He thinks he’s some sort of hot shot, lives in an expensive house and drives fancy cars. He presents his company as one of the biggest in the area but it’s honestly just a mom and pop operation with a few technicians, and I get the impression that he spends more time dealing with his lifestyle than focusing on the moneymaking part. We are out of clients right now and he’d rather ask about my personal life or talk about his than train me or tell me how to read a floor plan, for example, despite me asking him repeatedly to clue me in.…

Arragont Hiring Managers

I recently had a terrible experience during an interview for a senior business analyst role with an arrogant hiring manager. The hiring manager, whom I will refer to as Mr. Know-It-All, bombarded me with about a hundred questions and nitpicked my answers. He often interrupted me while I was speaking. I must clarify that I am not trying to make any negative remarks about any specific race, but this hiring manager is of Indian descent. While I appreciate and value my Indian coworkers, I have observed that some Indian managers in the technology industry tend to rely exclusively on textbook answers to appear knowledgeable. That is exactly what this hiring manager expected from me during the interview. There was no open dialogue or exchange of ideas. After the interview, I felt deeply offended to the point where I sent an email to the recruitment team withdrawing my application. I am…

40hrs sick pay earned but only allowed to use 24hrs? Anyone experience this?

I took a day off from work, sick, and did everything I could to adhere to the requests of my job. I was ready for work when they told me that because, I had just caught covid, that I must quarantine for 5 days, yet, when it comes to using my earned sick pay, they tell me I've already used 16 hours so they're only going to pay me 8 hours. I will end up having actually 31 hours that I've earned and yet receive zero benefit from. Are we only allowed to get sick for 3 8-hour days during the year? So, forfeiting earned sick pay is the new normal?

Send me home when I go to take my paid 15… okay

Yesterday after I finished a task my boss asked what I had left to do so I told him I am going to take my paid 15 break (in our union contract) & I got sent home without getting to take it. Today I took 3x 15 min breaks when I'd only get 1. I wont argue, but I'll take what's mine & if I gotta, I'm taking extra too.

Homework.

I missed a department meeting yesterday because I was out on vacation. Apparently they handed out books that we are expected to read, complete quizzes at the end of each chapter and then be prepared to discuss the reading material at the next meeting. Jokes on them, I will be doing all of this during my shift. I’m extra salty because I’m currently working full time and attending college as a full time student. Even if I was one of those employees who let this shit slide and do work outside of work, I literally do not have time to do it.

Rejected CEO’s advances. Now my performance is being called into question

I’m a 30 something recruiter based in the UK. Any assistance would be appreciated. A month ago, my CEO made advances towards me. He had been flirty since I arrived (late June 2023) including sending emails at inappropriate hours. A month ago, I stupidly accepted his ride after work where he made an attempt to kiss me. He bought me dinner and we went to a park briefly. Stupid, I know. Inappropriate? Absolutely. I refused to kiss him. I made it clear the day after in writing (I have screen grabs) saying that with discovering he was married that day, I was not interested. All has been fine since – I even received news from him of a £1k bonus last week due to my excellent performance. However, some strange events have happened this week. I was called into a “fact-finding” meeting by HR the day after my hospital appointment…

UAW-automakers negotiations pit falling wages against skyrocketing CEO pay: U.S. auto companies have the means to invest in EVs, pay workers a fair share, and still earn healthy profits

The Big 3 Automakers have spent $66 billion on stock buybacks and dividends over the decade. That amounts to roughly $440k for each of the ~150,000 workers covered by UAW collective bargaining agreements. Register to vote: https://vote.gov
