I learned from this sub that giving a two week notice is customary in the US and that you guys are generally against this (and I understand why). In my country the amount of notice you need to give is based on the amount of time you worked for your company. For example I needed to give 5 weeks notice when I quit my previous job after working there for 1.5 years. The plus side is that if they would've fired me they would have needed to give me 10 weeks notice or simply pay me for that period while I sit at home. Do you think this is a better system or do you prefer to have the ability to quit without notice?

The IT Market – 2023
I wrote this to reflect upon my experience in the IT field today after getting rejected for the 3rd time in a row after nailing all the interviews. The IT Market – 2023 How I started I’ve been fixing PC’s since I was 14 years old, swapping out the memory chips one by one until we located the bad one and the motherboard finally posted. This was in the early 1990’s. Fast forward thirty years and I’ve graduated college, got an MBA and have made a nice career for myself in the IT industry. What I’ve experienced in the last couple years however, isn’t like anything I’ve seen before in the field. Awesome Opportunities I started as customer technical support, answering calls from customers needing basic website or payment assistance and slowly worked my way up the ladder. Next, I found a systems administrator role with a national travel…
I've been working for a non-profit organization for a little over 19 yrs but they have made drastic changes in my duties that the job I was hired to do has morphed into something drastically different. The new duties assigned are things that I hate or am not good at. I do not know what to look for in my search for another job in the meantime. Any advise would be appreciated.
Had a Zoom interview scheduled for 3:30. Logged on around 1 pm to make sure I knew how to work with Zoom. Took a break around 2 (but stayed logged in) to get dressed and all made up. 3:30 comes, 3:45, at 3:47 I'm sending frantic emails asking what's wrong, I'm hanging out in the waiting room and nobody is there. Eventually, at 4:45 I get an email saying they show me logging in first at 2 but not being logged in at 3:30. Wasted an entire afternoon when I had things I needed to get done. Don't have any idea why they didn't see me, neither do they, and they apparently didn't take the time to even glance at their email or they would have seen that I was trying to get in touch. “Nice” enough to reschedule for tomorrow, which was already going to be ridiculously busy. And…
So, I should NOT ask the boss, right?
There used to be one old boss. Now there is old boss and new younger boss [who was supposed to be an assistant but has the same higher upboss as old boss does]. Old boss is taking extra time off. [I am too because I am old and I think we will be forced out]. “All the websites” say we should ask the boss what is up, how we can help, etc. Whether old boss will be leaving by choice due to family illness or more money, suspects they are being forced out, or waiting for a promotion is none of my business. Right? Because neither boss is a friend or family or any of that crap. So I should not ask old boss what is going on, right??? My stance is trust no one at this point. The higher up boss of my two bosses has become distant [since…
This job has gotten me so jaded, I don't give a fuck anymore. I openly discuss wages with my coworkers. I openly discuss how unfairly we're being treated by management. I openly discuss that I am quitting once I get my start date for a job that's offering me $5/hour more. I don't care if my boss finds out before I tell her, I wish she'd fire me. But, she won't because she's so fucked for help because “no one wants to work anymore” We're so short staffed, it's comical. Lol, no, people do want to work, but no one wants this lousy ass job that pays like dog shit. I don't care anymore. I've been taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid for far too long. She laughed in my face after I inquired about a raise a few weeks ago. I've given my all to this job, extra shifts,…
First question: Are you comfortable with hybrid? “Me: no I live in Minnesota and the job is in Florida and my friend who recommended me for the job (states name) is also in Minnesota and so is the hiring manager so that's why I applied.” Them: so are you comfortable with this salary? Me: so I currently make 8k more and I know historically this position pays 15k more. Them: ….”so what is your answer” Them: have you ever worked with x system? Me: Ive been in the company for 8 years so yes… The fuck do you even read the resumes for who is applying? Esp to internal positions

How to be a good boss
I'm currently working towards opening a business, and as someone with years of dealing with bad bosses or management at jobs I want to be a good employer when i get to that point. I have a lot of things from personal experiences I want to do or know not to do. However I would like to hear from others what you would want a boss to be like.
