More than half of my monthly income goes to my car because I'm in school and there is no public transport to my job or school. I work 30 hours which is about as much as I can manage without it eating into class time. Luckily I found a sweet roommate so I'm only out $600 bucks for rent. Yet for my vehicle I'm out $200 a month for payments, $155 for insurance, $80+ for gas, and additionally its a hassle to keep up with; I've had to pay ~$300 a month in parts to keep up with the damn thing and do the repairs myself. Now I have a airbag light on my dashboard that wont go away because of a faulty srs system and I can't get it replaced without paying $500 to a mechanic I just don't have anymore because I maxed my credit cards. yet because…
Category: Antiwork
1% fear or 100% complacency.
These days it only seems to be people on this subreddit, a few of my friends and uncles who have had similar jobs, who get what I mean by my title. Does it seem to anyone else, that every job, regardless of what it is, should have some element of accepted trepidation or feeling like walking on eggshells with everything you do? Personally, I think I was quiet quitting before it became a “thing/trend”. I do my tasks, they certainly don't take a full 8-hour day, I watch full tv shows/listen to audiobooks and watch doco's to actually learn something, then I go home, and do this every single day. When I get paid, I say to myself “ha-ha fooled them again”. I have a constant feeling of imposter syndrome and know that if I ever want to know what actually working hard looks like, I can take my noise…
I work 3×12, and I've been taking 1 day off a week this year and it's been amazing, from a mix of annual vacation and calling in sick. Almost the good life, almost like being retired. I'm barely ever at work. Obviously, the trade-off is that you can never take an in a row vacation longer than 5 days because you run out of days off. So no going to Cuba for a week or two. But I wonder why more people don't do this, or at least I've never heard of anyone doing it. Losing the extended break hasn't been noticeable, because 5 days off a week, I haven't had any time to get burnt out. I've even been thinking about getting a second job and doing the same, to save up some cash for 2-5 years. Right now I do Fri-Sun, so I'd just need a job that's…
I was messaged and told to post this here but if it doesn't fit here I'm sorry and I'll delete it I really dont know how to start this but it's a lot to take it so I put the trigger warning of abuse. I know it was dumb of me to get knocked up at 18 with a 24 year old. Im 19 now with a 7 month old baby. My ex/his father became really abusive during and after my pregnancy and it got the point where I felt like I couldnt say no any time he wanted sex, he would scream at me and eventually he choked me during an argument when I wouldnt put out because he claimed he “deserved it” after working and supporting me and our son. My father passed away a couple weeks ago and my own mother makes me feel like such crap…
I found out a couple of weeks ago that my company wants us to donate to a local charity. The charity chosen is a local foodbank. The employees make between 15-20 a hour. I make a little more than 18. I support a family on my income due to circumstances. I find it incredulous that my family that has had to use food banks this past year to get food be demanded to “give back”. Like wtf.
Record profits = no Christmas bonus
Had a mandatory Christmas party last week where the big boss goes on and on about how we made record profits this year but said nothing about getting a Christmas bonus. Instead they gave us all blankets for Christmas. Kinda pissed but kinda like the blanket but compensation is and always will be better.
Hello everyone! I'm writing here today seeking help and advice on a very frustrating situation I'm facing with my former employer, The Boeing Company. To get things started, I was employed at Boeing for over a year and a half, working on various projects related to sourcing old parts for 9 different aircraft and many more that were added later. I consistently received excellent feedback from colleagues and even played a key role in Boeing securing new contracts. Unfortunately, I was put on a PIP (performance improvement plan) and eventually terminated due to “lack of performance,” despite having completed all PIP requirements and exceeding expectations in many areas. The concerns I have: I have reason to believe the termination was unjust and motivated by factors beyond my control. My boss, who initiated the PIP and termination, was later fired themselves, suggesting potential issues within the management structure. I recently attempted…
TL;DR: Made a life move and quit the golf season. I had this raging alcoholic caddie master for a boss one season. I worked under him as a caddie and as outside operations. I made money from looping as well as hourly for the outside job, 6 or 7 days a week. The place is a fancy golf factory and the product is really average golf being played by rich men. Anyways, I went into work one day as the fall season was slowing down. It was a short drive and I had some exciting news for my boss. I told him I needed the morning off to follow up on a teaching job offer I had received the day before. I watched him literally biting his tongue as I explained that I would still be happy to come back in the afternoon, cover a loop for him, and then…
Donate tips and pay for parking
When I was 17 (12 years ago), I worked at an ice cream shop that paid minimum wage ($7.25 an hour). We would get tips quite often l, but had to put them in a donation jar for a charity that the owner chose. On top of that, the shop was in a town where you had to pay for parking. I think I lost money working that job!
My husband repairs water coolers for a water company (I wont say which one just to keep anonymous) and his plant is the highest rated in the country. We live on the west coast of the US. The second highest rated branch challenged them on a contest to fix the most coolers over a period of 5 weeks. The issue arises when they start the competition and my husband’s branch has two audits during that period and runs out of coolers to fix. His management finally got shipments of coolers so they could try to catch up and everyone including my husband were working 12 hour shifts every day for the competition. His branch won. As a reward for all their hard work, him and his coworkers requested bonuses or gift cards. Instead they’re being taken out for fancy steak dinners. I was thinking it was something like Black Angus…
