Cross posting here. Not exactly urgent. In California. So every fast food restaurant shift I get a 10 minute break in my 4.75 hour shift. Normally it's not a problem but I (personally) feel this manager has it out for me to some degree. (Apparently) At 8 precisely she tells me to go on my break. Okay so I stop what I'm doing, go to the back, grab my phone and water cup, fill it up, go into the dining area and sit down. I check my phone and it's 8:03. Okay Yada Yada 8:13 (maybe 14ish admittedly after putting my stuff back) now she's accusing me of taking extra time, “I sent you at exactly 8, you're back at 814”. I respond yeah duh I went to go grab my stuff and checked my phone when I sat down. She says I can tell it to the boss tomorrow.…

I handed in my notice
Update from my initial post a couple of days ago I handed in my 1month notice yesterday (our laws in the country) My boss didnt take it well. She told me a bunch of things about not being grateful (of course not the words she used) She laughed because I put in a month's notice she said there's no way i was goimg to be able to turnover the tasks properly because i have no replacement and 1 momth is just not possible. She went on to tell me that i cant understand how much opportunity “fell on my lap” despite my age (24) and entry level experience because of the position she gave me. For context I work at her company, it's small, and i work with one other person. Literally, the conpany employs 3 people currently. You can imagine the workload that I have. It's not a joke.…
I was talking to my dad today and I mentioned how housing is a human right that everyone should be entitled to and he asked me this question (title). I responded that people do want to work but simply can't afford to live while working most jobs. I feel like I could've said more/something better in response to this question so what would you guys have answered?
Punished for FMLA leave
As the title says I’m currently being punished for using fmla leave after the death of father and a recent mental health diagnosis that kept me out of work. The company I work for has paid fmla leave and I have everything checked off by the doctor and filled out but it’s about a week until I come back from it and hr and my direct manager had a meeting with me over the phone about “expectations” and told me when I return I cannot use any paid time off for the rest of the whole year (the company claims to have unlimited time off). They told me they can no longer pay me the same and that if I take any sick days or anytime off for the rest of the year and possibly next year I could be disciplined and fired. I was also told that one of…
Are redundancies happening everywhere?
We are having a huge wave of redundancies (quite messed up- maybe a whole new post on it once it’s all done). I’ve started looking out and I see so many people open to work on LinkedIn saying they are laid off. I was excited to get shortlisted by a company – when I looked them up it looks like they are having redundancies in another country! This makes me even more worried and insecure about having a job in the future with them.
Can an employer not provide reason of termination in a written documented format? When termination happen. I saw the zoom sharing screen as to why. Yes I'm a supervisor managing 25+ people everyday. Long story short I have a major case against HR. Unemployment told me I need to contact a lawyer with how algredious things went down.
Fired for booking vacation time
So I’ve been working for this remote financial company for a little over 9 months now nothing fancy. A couple months ago I booked some time off for the summer and made sure to check service levels and availability. Today my manager calls me to let me know I have been terminated without cause… when I asked why me they said because I had unapproved vacation time I then offered to cancel the vacation and they said their decision was final lmao What can I do in these cases besides collect unemployment
Inappropriate behavior at dinner event
I’m on the way out, outsourced. But I was made aware of some highly inappropriate behavior from someone in leadership and a high level HR related sponsor while at dinner with colleagues. My question is, do I bring this up to HR on our side? Can doing so hurt my severance or violate a NDA or non disparagement agreement? I’m still an employee so I believe I can speak up. It didn’t happen to me, I am a bystander. The victims wish to forget about it and just vented to me while in disbelief, but they requested that I take no action on the matter. Should I speak up or just keep my mouth shut? They could also simply deny they ever told me anything, so I’m reluctant. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
I have a physical disability that comes with days I feel totally fine and days I can barely walk. Last week I had a bad week and my knees were giving out from under me and I called in one day (2 hours in advance and company policy is 1 hour at least) but still worked 30 hours that week while limping and feeling like garbage. The schedule for next week came out today and I only have 19 hours scheduled when I’m usually at 40. (I’m a student and I am trying to work as much as possible over the summer) I haven’t brought it up to my manager but I do feel like it has to do with my low productivity the week my disability made me more disabled than I have been.
