[Help] Boss is threating in-office work because the VPN strangles my ability to complete projects

I spend most of my days accessing the company drive via a VPN connection, but the connection is so slow that I can only access the drive 50% of the time (and even then, it's shaky). The few times I've mentioned this, my boss has acted like 'Well, it's not happening to me, so you're just overblowing the issue.' It's beyond frustrating. I've spoken to IT, who hasn't been much help either (gave me me different laptop, and blamed my router). Now that I'm very late on a project (a month overdue, but no deadline posted) my boss is threatening to have me come in and work in the office. Any advice on how I can politely deflect that?

Can’t even get a $875 month apartment on $15hr.

Kinda aggravating. No company should do 15hr but even the “good” ones do. Like it’s industry standard for everyone to do 15hr. I feel like I can’t even get ahead, I hate the 3x income rule because it’s so f*cked up with how every landlord does this. This country is terrible. Idk how people survive, maybe I’m just bad at it. Rant*

What does it mean when HR has constant turnover?

I've been at this job for almost ten years, and I don't think there was a head of HR that was there for more than two (and it's not just the head, it's everyone, most of them being around for less than a year). It's not my department and I haven't had any issues with them, but it's always made me wonder. The whole point of HR is, theoretically, to smooth things over between employees and management, but clearly something is amiss.

Coworker took on a manager’s workload for 1 year after being promised a raise and a promotion. Resigned because, surprise! It didn’t happen.

Can't believe I actually have something to post here haha Three years ago our team used to have three people: Our Manager, my coworker, and me. Workload was balanced and we get along well with each other. It was great. Then our manager resigned for a better position elsewhere. Management promised to find a replacement, and they'd appreciate it if the both of us can split her duties between us for now. We shrugged, because it really wasn't too bad back during Covid. A few months later, they never did replaced her. No response after poking and prodding. Then blindsided us that they no longer have the headcount. More responsibilities piled up as business returned to normal. Our workload were increasing week after week. I declined taking on more by citing how full my current plate is. My coworker, however, was oddly jumping at the chance of taking on more…

Can an employer use a photo of me without my permission to market or promote a product

Hello, I live in arizona and work at an entertainment facility. Recently, I was shown in a news segment about our facility. I didn't know I was going to be but they just started filming the area I was in and I didn't wanna ruin it by rushing out so I just sort of played along. It was live, I didn't really care that much. What I did care about was that my employer took a Screencap of me in the news segment, and displayed it under a product I was demonstrating saying “as seen on tv.” I don't remember giving permission for him to do that, he just sort of did it and expected me to think it was awesome. It was not a flattering picture, I don't want to be used for marketing unless I'm being paid for that, and in general, im a private person. I know…

I’ve got like a week and a half left at this job, and I’m just done.

Throwaway just in case. I work in proposal work and I’ve recently accepted a new job at a better company. I’ve worked at my current place for almost 4 years and have good relationships with most of the people that I work with. Recently my boss left and we got an interim boss. I just haven’t gotten good vibes from her and I feel undercut and under appreciated any time I talk with her. This has contributed to my wanting to, and finally leaving. Ultimately, I am so burnt out and I just don’t care anymore. I don’t want to leave on a bad note or leave my team in a bad place but mentally I just can’t do anymore. I have a meeting with my boss Monday and I kind of just want to tell her how I’m feeling, and let her know what I can truly handle doing…

Job sucks. Going back to school. Moving family in with parents. Right move?

Found myself pigeon holed in management roles in a manufacturing setting where I have no desire to be. At least not in the capacity I am. I’ve decided im saying fuck it and going back to school to right the ship I’ve been driving off course. I’ll get my masters and emerge to a new profession and skill. But. My wife and I have talked about taking my parents up on an something they have offered so many times it’s almost a joke. We are going to move us and our two young kids into their house. Were stable financially (as much as anyone can be right now) but the idea of selling our house while the market is hot, saving that money and then building even more savings on top of that for the next few years is very intriguing. So. Is this the right move? If anyone else…

Unused PTO policies for non-profits in CA?

I work at a nonprofit in CA and we operate under a “use-it-or-lose-it” policy for PTO. Maybe I just did too cursory of a glance at CA nonprofit policies but considering it’s illegal to implement a use-it-or-lose-it style policy in CA, why is it legal for my nonprofit to do so? My unused, accrued paid sick leave does not carry over to the next year either, which is also considered a form of PTO in CA. Am I just getting shafted by the attorney general here?

I wish I had this forum when I was 20. Question: any HR reps here that can spill secrets?

Like how do Fortune 500 companies really treat employees? How cold hearted are some businesses and how hats the worst things you’ve seen before?
