Worked at a very understaffed laboratory in a hospital and just landed a new job that starts in 3 months in another state. I've spoken to some of my local Japanese friends, and they all raised an eyebrow and said that it sounded stupid what my company was doing. TLDR: Company sent me a form I needed to legally stay in the country and keep working for them. They wanted reimbursement for the postage stamp. I refused. This was at a large company, salaried employees. We accrued sick leave and vacation leave separately. However, each time we were out sick, we had to use a full day of vacation before we could use any of our accrued sick leave. If we didn’t have any vacation accrued and were out sick, we would have to take an unpaid day before we could use our sick leave. This also meant that you couldn’t use partial days of sick leave for appointments or anything like that. No wonder this place has massive turnover.

I see Redditors on here brag about how little work they do when WFH. They will usually comment: “I only do 3 hours of work a day and spend the rest to play video games and web surf.” To me, this sounds like a dream job. I already sit at my computer all day when I'm not working. My only problem is that I've been doing blue collar jobs most of my working life so I don't have any skills to do remote. Is it possible to teach yourself online a skill to get one of these jobs?

Today there was a big rush and I was the only one working that shift, and consequently I guess I dropped a bill on the floor. Later that day I found it on the floor and thought I’d just take it. So I did. It’s not anything crazy like $1000 but I did worry that my manager might notice. Maybe I’m just worrying over nothing but fuck him. Anyways, hope everyone had a good day. Edit: FYI this POS manager withholds all our tips and only gives us a small percentage of it when he feels we meet his standards. So $20 is nothing compared to how much he stole from us.

I applied to a highly skilled job. I got told the rate was 20 an hour which is insanely low but I figured the experience would be good for me resume and I need money. I did a 2 and a half hour phone interview and a 2 hour technical interview. They said I was one of the only people to complete the tasks on the technical side and I made it to the top 3. They then called me a week later and said that I was so close and they wanted to let me know the pay was actually 16 an hour for some potential 3 hour shifts and I’d have to take tests to get 18 an hour and then get approved for 20 after 4 months. Should I just bail?

All those fires in the middle of the night that I should be tending to? I’m just swiping away those notifications. Their slimy management only hurts their customers. They never said anything to me yet, so I know they know they’re in the wrong here. If they say something to me about this, I’m going to put them on blast.

it wasn't a terrible part-time job, and I was grateful for the (+$1/hr) raise, but i was also exhausted. I have some savings and I'm very lucky to be in a financial situation where it's ok for me to take a break from work for a little while. I was super anxious to send the message, but even though my boss hasn't answered yet I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me already. ️
