Question for the community.
Long and short: I’m working minimum wage waiting tables and I’m curious about the demographics of this group. How many of you work in the USA? And if not, where are you from?
Antiwork theme song?
Hi team -Heard one of my favourite songs from Cold Chisel – Bow River – about a guy who's sick of “working on the engine line” and the “Money I saved won't buy my youth again” – hope you enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2by810nulE FWIW – I've taken a “gap year” from high school teaching as I am burnt out after 2 years of online “teaching”…
Hello everyone Sorry if this is not the appropriate place to post this but I'm kind of desperate for some advice. I took family leave because I just had a daughter and I did all the paperwork and I was supposed to not get paid from my job and instead get the whole family leave money for 12 weeks. Anyway I got paid for my job by accident someone in HR didn't do their job and I alerted them so that I could return it. I come back to work today and I found out that not only do they want what they gave me but any deductions from my paycheck such as income tax, state tax, my deferred compensation plan and Medicare. But I still have to give the base money back So to make it a simple summary let's use some numbers. My gross pay is 1000$. My…

Was the Grass Greener?
Seeing a lot of people loving the fact they gloriously quit their crap jobs and moved on to a place with better pay. Just wondering from those that have done this and spent some time at the new company and past the honeymoon stage, are you happy there? We hear about all the toxic cultures, but nothing about the positive cultures. I know they exist!
How is everyone’s workplaces handling sick people or people rapid testing positive with Covid? I ask because my girlfriend and I who live together work for the same small company in Ontario, Canada have been sick since last week. As per our government mandate we isolated for 5 days upon symptoms showing. Our 5 days are up, we’re still sick, we rapid tested last night and are positive for Covid. Our boss is saying we have to come back tomorrow and resume work. In the shop side of the company where I work someone rapid tested positive a few weeks ago and is back. I tested positive on a rapid test. Another shop employee tested positive last week, no idea when they’ll be back. Another coworker just got sent home, or sent themselves home today for showing symptoms. This all seems sketchy as f*ck to me but I’m out of…
My dad is an accountant and is pretty darn book smart. He is also in his late 60's and loved Regan and republicans. He voted for Trump but has since softened on his stances and isn't homophobic or any of that Trump Republican nonsense. He believes that I can still work my way to the top since I have a college degree and no debt. Granted I've been a drunk for a decade; but I held a job for almost all of it and paid for my rehab out of my own pocket. The issue I have is that I'm currently in the best job I've ever had money wise and freedom wise. However; my boss is adding more responsibility to me steadily. My dad has encouraged me to be the yes man and to keep going. I have and for 9 months now I've steadily increased my work. I…
Passion-driven work is the kind of work best (or usually) performed by someone who has great passion for it, such as the work done by game developers, character actors in Disneyland, or research scientists. People who work in these fields are usually paid very little when you consider the level of skill required to do their work. For example, Disneyland actors are paid around $13 per hour for their time, while their work is extremely tiring, demanding and requires uncommon skills. I often hear people say that those who enjoy their work don't need to be paid as much because the enjoyment is part of their pay. I disagree heavily with this to begin with, but let's assume it's correct for a moment so we can analyse it. Let's say for argument's sake that if you enjoy your work, then it's reasonable for you to be paid less for…
