How do y’all find the motivation to find jobs?

I mean this in the most serious way; I’m applying for jobs right now but I’m really not good at interviews because I just can’t fake that I have the motivation for life or a want to work when I know it’s all pointless anyways. Like how do you guys sell yourself during interviews knowing that you don’t want to work if it’s all pointless? I really don’t understand how people do it, I personally just have the hardest time selling myself or making myself believe in something I know isn’t true. Like when it’s “Why do you want to work here?” I honestly don’t. I don’t want to be underpaid since I live in one of the most expensive places in the US and I’m being offered $17. I don’t want to go home exhausted. I don’t want to pretend like I’m happy whenever I go into work and…

I’m sure this is a repost but worth revisiting. Spanish civil servant skips work for 6 years, and no one notices

Got to love work.

Recently I had a interview for a higher position in my company, I did not get the promotion as they said I was not the right fit for it. Later on was told by my boss that I did not get the promotion because in part of the interview I said that my family comes first, Like WTF. FYI this is a family run company and we treat they're employees as such (like f they do). Well f@#k them I'm off after hearing this.

Why haven’t we come up with a decal stores that pay living wages can display?

I would certainly try to use stores with that decal. Like the Chamber of Commerce but for customers instead of business clout with the local gov. Something like this could take off and create an incentive for businesses to get that decal by treating their workers right because it brings in more customers.

Recently left a toxic job, my whole team followed.

A little under a year ago I took a supervisor position at a warehouse nearby. I was excited to have that position because I feel like it’s time to advance myself in the job market and also I could be the supervisor/manager I’ve always wanted to have and be able to advocate for my team as opposed to strictly overseeing work. The company pretty much made that impossible. We were a fulfillment warehouse, the entire job was receive/inventory, pick/pack/ship with occasional machine operation (we sold vinyl rolls and had a large slitter machine to resize). Here’s a list of gripes/policies. no talking between staff members unless it is directly work related no music, no headphones allowed (silent workplace essentially) schedule was 9am-7pm daily pay: the actual pay rate was 3 dollars an hour less than the advertised pay rate. Your hourly pay is based on the low number and you…

My job is trying to force me in on my off day

It’s sleeting and snowing where I’m at and today is my off day. The weather doesn’t bother me and I’d go in if it was my scheduled day but my boss is trying to force me in. Yesterday I spoke to him about working in the freezer area( I’m a grocery order selector) and I’m fine with that but he told me to bring my warm clothes and I said ok but I am off tomorrow and he said ok just make sure Thursday you bring your freezer clothes and I said sure. Now this am I’m getting calls and text saying I’m being forced in. I have not responded and I don’t think I am. I don’t understand why he wouldn’t say I’m being forced in yesterday when we had a 15min convo about the freezer. I am very pissed that I’m being painted as lazy and inconsiderate of…

From the perspective of a member of Gen Z

I am a 17 year old female, born in 2004, which means that I fall into Generation Z. I’m a senior in high school in the US and have lurked on this subreddit for the past few months. I just wanted to make a post highlighting my perspective as someone who will soon be going into college and eventually the work force. Most of the posts I see on here scare and anger me. They make me want to help improve the workforce, to help do something useful with my life and future career. I’m planning to go into video game design, hopefully become self employed as an indie game developer, but with the economy in its state I fear that this dream could end up never becoming reality. Most of the other people within my generation I’ve spoken to about this topic are either completely lost, want to seek…

I don’t know what to do anymore.

Sorry for such a long post, I just need to scream this into the void before I explode. I have been working consistently since I was 14 years old. When I was 14 I worked FULL TIME during the summer. More than full time actually, I was working 8 hour days Monday through Saturday with only Sundays off. I worked in the corn fields as a pollinator for an agriculture company that has a monopoly on most crop seeds (I'm sure you can guess but I don't want to be sued.) and it was basically child labor. We got paid horrible for what we did. It was hard labor outside in the crippling Midwest heat and humidity. Often times they would work us past safe heat indexes and they would have teenagers collapse in the field. We wouldn't be allowed to go home early for extreme heat unless several people…
