I'll start. Several years back I was working as a service provider for the second biggest internet service provider in my city. This company paid a second, smaller company to provide on site tech support to the the customers of our Isp. I was basically a wandering IT guy It was going well till the Isp switched companies and they contacted me to continue employment under them. I got paid by the number of appointments completed and the number of appointments started falling drastically. On top of that, they started to just take their sweet damn time sending my money, and trying underpay me. I quickly lost patience. So one day I quit providing service. I didn't bother to tell them tho. So for a week or so there were no appointments fulfilled in the whole city. That's right, I was the only guy in the whole city providing support…

Not every boss is bad

The State of Good’s Candy
https://www.facebook.com/goodscandyshop/ He posted a stupid advertisement for workers and had to permanently close. The owner’s last epic meltdown is on Facebook for everyone to see. This happened in a red area in a red state. https://amp.indystar.com/amp/5245096001. My classmates from Indiana just did a research project on it in a ethics class. He’s from that area.
About £2 an hour
This happened a few weeks ago and is still on my mind. Started at a new company early last year and had my first performance review. I sat down with my leader and thought it was going well at first; I was told how much of a hard worker I was, how much the team loved me, and was complimented multiple times about how quickly I picked up the processes to support our clients. Then my leader asks me “what would you rate your performance on a scale of 1 to 5?” I replied with a “4”, that I had really made an effort but there was still room for me to grow in my contributions as I was still learning the in and outs of the role. He told me that I was more like a “3”. I was floored by this and asked if I had made any…
Employee Appreciation
I recently became a manager, and employee appreciation day is next Friday the 4th. What are some good (non insulting) ways I can show my appreciation for my team? I know money, obviously. We had our annual compensation reviews last week and everyone on my team received a raise (of more than 7%) and everyone also got their annual bonus last Friday the 18th. I am very new to my managerial job and I don't even know if I can hand out more raises at this time. I know things like a pizza party or an amazon gift card are insultingly bad gifts. Other than giving raises/bonuses what can I do that isn't insulting?
Thought ya’ll might cheer for Alex!
Chatting about this movement
Hello Friends I'm currently writing an article about the value of work. I've been following this movement for a while. Many people regard the anti-work movement as lazy, being against the American dream, unrealistic and such. Most of them have zero knowledge on the subject and are stuck in a neoliberal way of reasoning. For most, working is always good and a virtue. If you're not successful and wealthy you're a failure, capitalism won't take care of you. While work is seen as a virtue, there is hardly any morality within capitalism itself. We've got sh#tjobs and bullsh#tjobs (sorry but these are the correct terms) that make many people feel horrible, while (often) being exploited by the rich. We're not allowed to explore other options, while these have been within reach for years. In academia this idea isn't new at all, it surprises me that this movement isn't taken seriously…

Top performer!
So I was lauded this year for being the best in my department. Highest scores of anyone. For the entire year. What do i get for doing such excellent work? A 6.5% raise. Not even enough to cover for inflation.
