Saw an ad for a competitor last week during the Super Bowl – company was bragging about their donation to a non profit in the ad. Cool story bro. Ran into one of their account managers yesterday. She’s been with the company for at least 8 years and has a fantastic reputation in the area. She told me they just laid her off! What was the company thinking? This is a tight knit community so I wouldn’t be surprised if accounts start dropping the product over this. I’m so mad for her!!!

I am an Advanced Care Paramedic and am extremely proud of my career. I have personally been invited into your lives for so many sacred and scary moments and I thank you immensely for that honour. This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I write this after lying awake for hours on end, anxious and crying. How many nights I’ve done this over the past few years I can’t count. We are so overworked, understaffed, under appreciated in a system that has been broken prior to me even joining its ranks. I bring a fully stocked Emergency Room to every scene, I can cardiovert, intubate, perform cricothyroromies and needle decompressions, yet I still am known an ‘Ambulance Driver’. I laugh at this as I know my worth but what I can’t get over is how the system values it’s Paramedics. It doesn’t. We are meat in…

I’ve been wavering on this decision for months. This past month has been particularly awful. I was publicly called out over an email chain with all of my colleagues (I worked for an agency) for not being able to uphold an unfair workload. I was – on average- working 10-12 hours a day to keep up with expectations. The CEO refused to hire anyone to help me, dangled the opportunity of promoting me to management for 2 years, and always being told it would happen “the next quarter.” At some point I started to cut my days at 8 hours. When this happened, not all of the work got done. I communicated I needed help and was faced with “you’re not organized or planning correctly.” I was performing several more tasks outside of my job description with no compensation for the skills I brought to the job. There was no…
Honestly I wouldn't even be mad if my bosses acted like they actually cared about the work I do.
Support Your Local Strike
What the title says. I just dropped some doughnuts off for some folks on the picket line. Give whatever kind of aid you can provide whether you're in a union or not. It doesn't necessarily have to be material support. They fight for all of us.
