Lurker for a while but I still don’t want to believe policies that should help workers can be twisted so much. I just got let go from my job due to (what seems like their fault) an improper filing of FMLA. They had me get this filled out for a period of time in which I had tested positive for COVID. I also work with geriatric patients very closely so of course I took the work week off. Not trying to kill your grandparents. However, I also have fibromyalgia and while I haven’t had a flare up for years-I got a debilitating one that took me out for two days this last week. (Partially due to the extreme stress and increased workload they had dropped on us within the last 2 months. But also anxiety and depression made worse by the loss of a close family member recently.) They informed…
Category: Antiwork
I recently went to ask my boss for a raise, I haven't received a raise in 3 years while my responsibilities have only gone up. I was told to go if I wasn't happy working there, I have been working there for 10 years. My coworkers have received raises so I'm fairly sure they are trying to get me to quit to avoid paying me severance. On the other hand I know that they have been artificially reducing sales or not including full sales in order to receive subsidies up to 75% of wages. Here in Canada there needed to be a 50% drop in sales to qualify for the subsidies, I work at a restaurant and when the pandemic hit we geared towards take out which resulted in minimal losses in revenue 5% tops and I know this from sales reports. They also get rent subsidies so they are…
My local subway
Keep seeing sob story after sob story of business owners closing down, claiming to not be able to afford to pay their employees. I'm JW, any bosses out there willing to (after taking enough money to keep business functions alive and running smoothly) take a salary/hourly rate equivalent to what “normal” employees are making to save their company?
Covid positive coworker.
A coworker of mine called out the other day. It seemed kind of weird because I work commission retail and holiday weekends is where all the moneys at. I went to my manager and asked what was going on because this is very unusual behavior from my coworker. She told me that she is not aloud to say, but after awhile she admitted to me he was out with Covid and the owners did not want to tell anyone so no one else would get tested and have to call Out during the busy weekend. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!? They are okay with us going home to our family’s possibly exposing and potentially killing our families members because they don’t want anyone else to get tested and possibility having to miss work on a busy weekend!!!! Fuck you and your greed!!!
I maid thus fer y’all
I worked at a warehouse for about 2 months or so, and all I really did was throw boxes onto a conveyor belt. Easy work, but it was very very mundane. It's worth mentioning that I don't mind physical work, but I need to be stimulated mentally while doing physical work. So after the first couple weeks of my job I bring headphones. Now, before I got them, I was told I was allowed to have them with me by at least 2 people. Yeah, there were signs up saying they were prohibited, but who am I going to listen to? A sign, or a higher up. So anyway, I bring them, and all is well. Sometimes I even find myself liking my job, because I get some kind of exercise in, and I get to listen to some podcasts. Not half bad and probably the closest thing to a…
Exhaustion after work
Hi there. I have work from 6-2 every day in a retail setting and when I get home I’m so exhausted that I nearly always pass out. I know a lot of people work far longer hours than that but It worries and annoys me that I miss out on the rest of the day because of this. Does anyone have any advice for staying alert after work? Thanks very much.
