So my title is HR Assistant and I have been at this new job for about 6 months. Like most jobs, everyone is on their P's and Q's and then you start to get an idea of the office bullshit. My coworkers and I report to the director but any time I have a question my boss “the director” refers me to the person who manages the secretaries up front. Now this would make sense if that was my title as the other ladies have said title and are in a different part of the building. It seems any question I have about polices gets deflected whereas my colleagues with more professional titles he never re-directs. Any time my colleagues need to take off, it is not problem they also are not forced to clock in. I sit in the back with my coworkers and I am the only one…

Quick rant about my job
I was trying to stay anonymous because of my job but I dont care anymore. Weve been working mandatory OT since Sept. They finally knocked it down to 5 hours a week mandatory. Awesome. They said they dont care WHEN we work it, beginning of shift or after, just as long as we work the hours we signed up for. I worked my OT this morning then we got an email that they canceled evening OT. I asked if we worked our OT in the morning, can we leave an hour early You know where this is going. Not only was I told no, they made sure to tell me know in 3 different emails. So they've just trained me to work OT in the evenings since they're gonna do this random canceling of OT. And someone tried to tell me, “Nice try trying to leave early ” in our…
Another reason Starbucks sucks
When I was 18, I watched my father be enveloped by cancer and die at home. My store manager, Spencer, asked me if I could go to my fathers funeral half an hour late so I could work a shift that day. Get fucked.
My boss is my landlord. Yes, I know it sucks. We worked together, and I needed a place to stay so I would not be driving 2 hours a day for min wage. She started getting into things like herbalife and pampered chef, and keeps inviting me to parties and putting ads in my face when I am in the kitchen (we live together, she rents out a room in her house to me). She also set up a camera in the kitchen and watches it and controls it remotely, so it follows me as I move around while cooking and preparing food. Not sure how I can get out of this.
Empathy doesn’t pay the bills
I was just catching up with a friend who happens to be an old coworker. She told me an employees dad died of covid last week. She had an amazing relationship with her father and was understandably crushed so she asked our mutual friend to talk to the owners about the companies bereavement leave policy. The owners said, “What bereavement policy? I guess she can take Friday off, but needs to be back on Monday.” Not really post worthy as so many of you have worse stories but what came next made my jaw drop. My friend, who was visibly upset by this comment and happens to be ferocious snapped back, “Jesus christ man have some empathy.” Their retort? “Empathy doesn't pay the bills.” I could still be working under these utter sociopaths. This community gave me the motivation to see what was out there. If a POS like me…
