Employers want to be treated as authority figures, but they don't want to earn that authority by taking responsibility for their employees' financial quality of life. If you want me to trust and respect you, you need to show me that you're not just in it for whatever you can get out of it. And if you do display that attitude, expect that I will, too. And no one should be so emotionally fragile and insecure that they need to pay people to kiss their ass. If you need that, get into therapy. I'm Gen X, and am very encouraged by the resistance to being exploited that I'm seeing among Millennials and Zoomers. Don't settle. Don't be cowed into submission. Never sell out.

Where do I begin on how irritating this is. Per Forbes article: “New York City Mayor Eric Adams met with 100 chief executive officers, in an effort to cajole them “to get their workers back into the office to stimulate the city’s economy.” He told the business leaders it was time to get their workers back in offices, stating that the lack of people commuting into the Big Apple hurts the city’s economy.” So you need people to physically go to work because the process of them leaving their home forces them to spend money to stimulate the economy… this is basically a Ponzi scheme. We are more efficient on zoom and this has slowed transactions in the city — so you’re saying we should all be more inefficient just so we can spend money getting coffee with colleagues or buying over-priced salads for lunch or getting $18 after-work drinks…
I'm not saying it's definitively going to happen. I'm not saying it's going to happen anytime soon. But if things keep going like they're going. With no UBI, no minimum wage increase, no Medicaid for all, no student debt forgiveness; We're going to get to a point where there is going to be widespread violence. We're going to see the wealthy swinging from light poles, we're going to see assassinations, riots, fire bombings and the destruction of the infrastructure of the US. And I'm scared to death. I feel like I'm on a runaway train heading down the track toward a bridge that's out and there's nothing I can do. The ultra wealthy will never give concessions. “The man with a chain around your neck will never willingly let it go.” I'm afraid for the type of world my son is going to grow up in. It doesn't have to…
