Ex-Employer Wants Me to Pay Back Accidental Payment

Hi all, not sure if this is the right subreddit for this but here goes. I was recently laid off from my job in tech last week and when I started in March I told my employer that I had two weeks of vacation planned already so I would start and then be gone for two weeks. Well I was paid my regular salary for those two weeks I was gone and I didn’t notice until it was brought up to me by HR a couple months later. They knew I was going to be gone and I thought PTO would be applied but turns out their PTO policy only allows you to accrue PTO and the PTO days are not given to you upfront which is what I thought was the case when I was hired. HR told me they would adjust my salary to account for the accidental…

Asked to be on call 24/7 (prof with kids)

Hi all. I've been in pharma for most of my career. I left a very reputable big pharma company for an opportunity at a biotech (bigger pay bigger risk/reward). I am seasoned and during the interviewing process was very, very clear that I have a family and interests outside of work. Was told about the (generous) vacation schedule and PTO policy. My job necessitates 4-5 weekends outside of work for conferences. No problem there. So, now that I've jumped ship and am with my new employer my manager had a meeting with me to let me know: –I would be expected to “be aware” of emails during off hours (wtf does that mean?) No matter when they come in It would always “be my choice” to work on the weekends, and I wouldn't be “expected” to work –Then he gave me no less that 4 examples of how his working…

Employer did not pay out full PTO wages – Should I make a TWC claim?

I worked for this employer for a little under 6 months and accrued 55 hours of PTO. I put in my two weeks notice on March 23, 2023 with my last day being June 6th, 2023. Due to the termination policy stating “the maximum payment for unused and accrued PTO at termination of employment will not exceed 40 hours”, my manager helped me input and approve 2 8-hour days bringing my total down to 39 hours of PTO. However, these 2 days of PTO were scheduled for June 7th and June 8th. Due to this, my manager asked HR to not terminate me until the 14th so the days would go through. At this point, I was expecting to get paid for the 16 hours of PTO that had been approved plus the 39 remaining hours of PTO balance on my last check after termination. My second to last check…

Local store cutting wages for new hires.

Basically the title. I work at a certain chain grocery store and just found out they’re going to be dropping all departments down to minimum wage for new hires going forward. Previously most areas paid 2-3 dollars more and those already in the position will be keeping their wages. Should I encourage new hires to discuss their wages with their co workers because of the discrepancy in their pay? I’m just looking for advice. Side note the manager of the store received a quarter of a million dollar bonus last year on top of his yearly Salary.

Lied about currently being employed during an interview

Currently scared about messing up a potential job opportunity. I was employed with company A when I applied for a job with company B. On the application, I checked off, “currently employed” -which was true at the time. I also checked off “no” I do not want them contacting current employer. Since the filling out the application, I was terminated from the job A (3 day difference) I just had my interview with job B and they were asking about my current employer…. I never corrected them. In fact, I said I was still employed there. It’s been 6 days since I was let go from job A. Should I call and tell HR or the mangers I am no longer with company A and admit embarrassment or should I just wait and hope it never gets brought up again? I guess I’m hoping that since I said I was…

hour cuts, hour cuts..

First i start at 39 hours, great, kinda happy where I am, company gives great benefits. 12.75 starting, not the best but i have room to grow. A month in, my hours drop to 34. We recently hired a lot of people, makes sense, not worried. Next week? 24 hours. Apparently my hours are cut due to a payroll cut of 18k. The cut being due to our store not making the monthly sales plan. To put the cherry on top, we’re having a national commercial filmed at our store soon. How ironic. How do they expect me to live if they keep cutting my hours? Total ignorance.

I’m an Independent contractor, and being told I only used company to better myself, and I lack loyalty and integrity

Awhile back I was working for a gym as an independent personal trainer, and group trainer. To give background I created my niche classes on my own with no guidance from the owner, and worked my way to being the most sought after trainer in the gym. Now I’m being told because I took a job across town with another gym, (because my income at this gym wasn’t a liveable wage) that “I only “used” them to develop myself, and create better opportunities” so I lack loyalty and integrity? For one I acquired all my education prior to working there, created networking avenues on my own through attending certifications/workshops. I had to acquire all my clients on my own because the owner promoted nobody on the team, but themself. I also had no relationship with the owner other than them reaching out to me to network then they offered me…
