Lots of context for this story: I work at a gym, and I used to report to a Fitness Coordinator. She left a year ago, and there was just the manager left. He said he had too much on his plate and asked me for extra help (I got a nice little raise and more hours, which worked great for me). I worked alongside him for about 8 months; and then he left. So there was no one at like mid-management, and they needed someone to take care of day-day changes and make sure the place didn’t go to shit. I recently I worked for a large company, as a sandwich artist. I say recently, because I quit after the first day. Now, the work itself wasn’t bad. The pay could’ve been better, but it fit the job. The problem, however was parking. You see, this individual branch was in a city. Not a large city, but large enough to be considered a downtown. There was minimal parking, and what parking there was, was paid. I didn’t think this would be an issue at first. Employees of this branch were directed to use a specific parking garage almost two blocks away, and to purchase a parking pass for said garage. The parking pass is $75 a month. Turns out, however, the company doesn’t reimburse the employees. $75 dollars to park is an entire days work. The base per hour was 12, with an added 3 dollars extra per hour average,…

hello I work at a minimum wage job right now and my manager found some items that I kinda bought myself tucked away in a storage closet. These items are things the facility sells and I bought it for full price rather than our shitty discount. Manager asked me about it I panicked and said I didn’t know. Today, my supervisor informed me the manager is willing to fire the person who possibly stole the items and it’s kinda killing me from the inside. Just a note these items aren’t expensive it’s only like $3. I don’t want the manager to target other employees about it but I kinda don’t want to get yelled at about it. I willing to tell my chill supervisor about it just so the guilt is taken off my shoulders. Am I a a*hole for not saying anything yet?

The company I work for is doing some big water bottle fundraiser. People are supposed to buy 24-48 bottle packs and bring them to the office for some heat wave fundraiser whatever. Totally cool with that! I don’t mind the company doing that. However, they are posting a sheet of everyone’s names that does or does not contribute. I wasn’t planning on donating (not that it matters, but I donate a ton of my money every year), and then my manager just came to my desk area where dozens of other employees are and very loudly asked if I would be donating to the fundraiser. I was pressured into saying yes and I gave him $15 on the spot. I know it’s not a ton, and it’s for a good cause, but this just seems… gross to publicly pressure employees into donating cash. The last place I worked at had no employee discount (it was a cafe) and while I obviously found that disappointing, I didn’t think it was a big deal when I started working. I eventually realized it was indicative of the way they treated the staff in all regards – like we were soulless automatons who didn’t have any human needs worth considering. They treated us with constant suspicion and contempt, convinced we were trying to steal from them or slack off or get away with doing our jobs wrong even though they had no reason to believe any of that. They had no wiggle room for lateness or calling out sick and would get mad at us for taking “too many” bathroom breaks. When I interviewed for my current job, I asked if there was an employee discount. They told me employees got half off food and could have…

I just received my yearly review. I’ve been told time and time again how I’m the best person in my position. I received an 18 cent raise today and was told it was because the company didn’t make a lot of money last quarter and had nothing to do with my performance. Perfect. I will now lower my quality of work to the bare minimum until I find another job.
